A madman and his empire of dust and ashes.

The Master is my name, though I have used many aliases in the past. I am a Time Lord, one of the only two left.....The other being your precious Doctor. You thought he was the only one? The last one? He thought so too, but you don't get rid of me so easily. I fall and I rise, I always return better than the time before. Do not challenge me, for you will regret it. ((Independent RP blog for the Master, a character from Doctor Who. Will gladly rp with anyone, from any fandom. I track: kingofthewasteland. Mun is over 18 and Muse is far over the age of consent. NSFW content will be tagged should it ever come to that))

Seto Kaiba was a smart man. Dense at times but very intelligent. And it doesn’t take much to gather his attention. Especially with the spite of his adopted step father.

“Hm. I bet you are honored to get my attention. Handing me a card at a gala event and then mentioning Gozaburo’s name does not take much for me to be the slightest interested.”

He took a moment.

“How did you know the asshole anyways?”

Eyes lit up, sparked, as the Master momentarily stilled, as if one wrong breath would snatch this chance away from his grasping fingers again. A thrill he recognized from somewhere else. As soon as the treacherous thought appeared did he snuff it out.

He smiled, wide, spreading his arms.

"Perfect!" Hands clapped together to punctuate his excitement.

"Give me something to sink my teeth into. Your wildest aspiration, your - your most glaring impossibility... your- your best problem..!" And your best technology. It'd be brutish, undoubtedly, but it was a start.

"I promise I'll surprise you."

“My best problem...”

He gave it a thought. He had quite a handful of enemies and rivals in the technology world. So maybe he can get help for eliminating the field. And then there were the rivals within the duel monsters world.

“Technology is not going to help my ‘main’ rival.”

His nails dug shallow crescents into his palm. An effort to keep himself from doing something he'd regret. He'd always been better at the slow game, but his unstable body made that a luxury.

Then finally an answer came.

"A rival?" The Master asked. He'd been under the impression this Kaiba Corp was leading in its field. But whatever. An opening was an opening.

"Tell you what, you tell me what's going on, and I'll help you get rid of your rival. Simple as that. "

Ugh! How boring, playing it safe!

But the Master had always had a love for disguises, for masks, and he kept one on now too - the furrow in his brow understanding and his eyes slightly widened in emphatic offense at the wrong that had been done to this young man.

He didn't notice the tightness of his jaw, however. Neither could he see the glint in his own eyes.

"Then why did you come to meet me? Why come if there's nothing in it for you?"

Kaiba shrugged.

“I wanted to just see what was there to offer. I have dealt with a lot of...bullshit the last few years and it has made me learn to first see certain things first and see what others offer before I go on my merrily way.

As I mentioned before, not every day when someone mentions my step father in casual conversation.”

This was taking too long.

He could feel his ceels shudder and tremor, corrupted and not quite settled. For less than a second, the skin of his hands flashed a bright electric blue. The Master rubbed his hands together to hide it.

He had to grab this chance and fast.

"I offer my help." The words came out a little rushed. "I can make technology you couldn't even dream of! Give me access to a lab and I'll show you!"

It was barely there, but an observant onlooker with a keen eye might notice the Master's eyes darken, the faintest shadow of a scowl on his lips. He had to crane his neck back to meet the other's gaze. His next regeneration better be taller.

His scowl grew deeper. A quick rub at his temple got rid of it... mostly.

"You're thorough. That's a good trait. You'll get far with that. Tell me, what is the great Kaiba looking to accomplish next?"

“It’s a long list. Improving the VR technology with duel monsters and the next prototype of the duel disk and duel arenas. After that, it will depend on what the future holds and what the technology can bring me or what I can bring for it.

I like being not specific in my plans because I never know who I talk to.”

He nodded along, but stopped at the last part, eyes narrowing and one eyebrow ticking up in annoyance. That sounded like a bait.

It'd be fun to trade banter with a worthy opponent, but this boy was hardly that.

"I see. So you don't do partnerships, then?"

Asshole, huh? So, not a fan of the old man. Noted. He filed it away, crossed his arms behind his back and put on an easy smile. Whatever resentment this young man carried with him, the Master wanted none of it. If necessary, he could always try a few mind tricks, but not yet. It came at a higher price these days... "He... stole my ideas." A lie, though he had suspected Gozaburo had planned on something like that anyway. But the Master put on an appropriately wounded expression and hunched his shoulders, as if the memory pained him. "I specialize in... alternate worlds, so to speak. And in surviving in them. He was interested in that."

“Figures.”

Gozaburo was someone who could do his own ideas but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t steal an idea or two from others around him to help with his gain. And to cut back on his losses.

“Right. Virtual reality. I’ve heard of it by the way and experienced it.”

He hummed and clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth. "Did you...?" And to what extend? Better be careful now, couldn't risk setting this one off just yet. Not if he wanted to get anywhere on this dusty waste of a planet. The Master eyed the young man with his head cocked to the side, hiding the jitter running under his skin by shoving his hands into his pockets. "Gozaburo talked of a special someone who needed to be preserved, so to say. You wouldn't be... him, would you?"

Alright so he seemed to know some of the history. Not much nor did Kaiba know if he was just playing it up or whatever. He scoffed at that comment.

“Nope. That was the initial plan he had. Have his son in the virtual world and implant his mind into a different host because the body was gone. However he realized that I was a better child intellectually so the plan was thrown out the window.”

Oh yes, that was it. "Really, a terrible plan." The Master said with a shake of his head. And it was. Something like that could only be a temporary solution, a way to postpone the end, until their host body would fail them, just like their old one.

A violer ripple, a shot of electric energy, ran through his veins - a reminder that he couldn't be so judgemental this time.

He played it off as a shudder.

"And now you're here. I understand if you do want anything to do with your..." Was this a different son, then? Oh what the hell did he care! "Your father's past in the slightest... But maybe we could help each other out."

He still had the business card from the gala as he was in London for a dueling tournament. Yugi was off doing press on his end and Seto Kaiba decided to follow the address on the card. It led him to a private area just outside of the city; if certain landmarks weren’t in the distance you would call this a wasteland. So he waited for a bit to see if someone would actually show up.

Avatar

Normally, he'd always preferred to meet people on their own turf, so to speak. No one keeps their guard up at home, after all. But that wasn't usually their first mistake. No, the first mistake was meeting with him at all. But the Kaibas had always been a little different. He sensed him kilometers away, through the thick sour scent of the 'modern' age and the rancid mixture of oil, fat and sugar that came from the restaurants at the edge of the city. The boy's presence cut through it, fresh and clean, like a knife. It didn't actually suprise him all that much to hear the Kaiba he had worked with was no more. Humans died so easily! And war crimes eventually caught up to the best of them - one way or another, he should know - but there was always a new evil to fill its place. Let's see what this... child could do. "You came!" The Master crowed. "I'm honored I managed to get your attention. It's been a while since I've had the pleasure of dealing with a Kaiba!"

He blinked in surprise, caught off guard by how earnest the question appeared to be. After all, it’d be ridiculous, perhaps even mad, to invite someone for dinner and a pleasant evening walk, only to through them in a dungeon at the end of it.
Koschei hoped he wouldn’t have to write ‘I enjoy your company, you dunce’ to get the point across. Though, the king had to admit, Theta was making him work for that company. Perhaps that was what was making this so uncomfortable? Afterall, Koschei hardly ever had to really try to, well, be friendly. Polite, sure. In political relations, but not this.
“I don’t see why you should. Unless I have forgotten there being any reason to put you behind bars again..?”
A hint of a smirk accompanied the last few words, but was quickly dropped and followed by a small head shake.
“The other advisors you met this evening are all staying in the upper guest quarters. You will be treated the same to them.”

Theta should have guessed about the upper quarters but to him, he wanted to know anyways. Especially since this would be the first night that he would stay in the castle minus when he was ‘arrested’ for the first (and thankfully only) time. Seemed so long ago since that happened.

“Then lead the way.”

Leading the way? He had been doing that for a while now. Comes with the job.

And so he motioned the other forward, to where a servant was waiting to open one of the doors leading inside. With another hand gesture the king invited his guest to follow him as he entered a dimly lit corridor.

“Just don’t wander off.”

“But wandering off is what I do best.”

He teased…mostly as his eyes adjusted to the dimly lit area. It was mostly brick and stone that surrounded them with a few bits of art on the wall. More or less, not as welcoming as one would think but Theta didn’t mind so much.

"Is it? Here I thought your greatest talent was getting into trouble."

After all it felt like this man managed to get into the strangest of situations with ease. Which made him very useful. And interesting, in a way. Which, though all of them would like to think otherwise, not many people in the king's circles were.

"Now come one, it's up these stairs."

The Master had never liked to be on his own. Not that he was lonely! And besides, he had gotten used to having only his own thoughts, and the constant noise, for company. Empty planets, empty Time Capsule so long ago. But the last few months spend in an empty house, weeks gone by without hearing his own voice once, hadn’t felt the same.
Not at all.
Replacing a constant silent came certain little bursts of life he couldn’t ignore. The child’s murmurs and cries, her soothing humming and, now - her careful footsteps against the floorboards.
“Hmm,”
The desk was covered with a large sheet of paper, several measurement tools and one untouched cup of coffee. With a sigh the Master leaned back, rubbing his dry eyes. Of course he was busy. Making something of this magnitude required hard work and if he wanted to get the project off the ground before this body would give in to old age.
And even with his eyes closed, the image still drifted in front of him. Constantly rearranging to give shape to objects, relations, equations… It wasn’t strange that whatever else happened around him was put on a different, much slower, side track. Eventually he lifted a hand, morning for her to come in further, though his gaze returned to the paper in front of him.
“Asleep you said… He sleeps a lot.”

Lucy sighed, and resisted a little eye roll at the awareness her beloved so uselessly pointed out. “Of course he does, love…. He’s a baby…. Everything he does is a bit new and probably very tiring. And it’s good for him to sleep as much as he likes in these first few months…..” She spoke from researching endlessly in the last few months of her pregnancy to feel more prepared after she was away from him and on her own. She doesn’t mention that part– it’s best that way. But Lucy does manage a little smile as she enters.

“Darling…. I was wondering, if you were busy tonight.” She repeats the question. “I had hoped you might have time to talk with me….” Lucy bit her lip. She no longer looked to him as so very superior as she once had. He no longer stands as her master, nor she as merely his female companion whose life’s blood was to worship at his feet. She was more than that these days, and her feelings towards him often reflected that. His anger no longer frightened her, much as his displeasure no longer left her aching with guilt. They were on an even ground, and had been for years now, it felt.

Well… Until she left.

He still was not her master, and she still did not lay at his feet as a suppliant… But she was undeniably at fault for hurting both of them and ending that troubled and fiery, but genuinely deep bond they had. She hurt him. In a way she had sworn never to do again and that time, she had done so with their son being practical collateral damage in the actions. Of course, she was back now, so at least she was certain Omikron would suffer nothing from her actions. This was of solace, but it hardly solved all of the problems she currently struggled with.

She tried to put the thoughts out of her head and settle to move and lean against her husband’s desk, closer to him. This was taking work, and was a long way from where she wanted to get their relationship… But the odd thing was, she felt so unbearably sure that he was worth it.

"I know that." He sighs behind his hand and rubs his eyes again. The words weren't directed at anyone in particular, but he can't quite let it slide either. Of course he knows basic biology! And advanced biology too. Across multiple species at that! Thats why he figured Omikron would behave a little less, well...

Lucy demanded more attention, other thoughts quickly slipping to the back of his mind. Retreating, almost.

So when she approached, got closer to him than they had been in weeks, the Master had very little choice but to face her. He could send her away. He had so much more important things to concern himself with. Things she would try to understand, yes, but would never really get. But one thing he had come to learn again and again, is that she was of the persistent kind. And she find a way to drag this talk out of him.

So he relented.

"We're talking now. So.." He shrugged, then leaned back to finally look her in the eye. A pencil bounced between his fingers rapidly.
