On an extremely different note, rec me video games please?? Especially Skyrim-style single-player RPGs (i.e., similar in play style, does not need to be similar in content). I’m on my second Skyrim playthrough and I want more things to obsess over after Finals Period ends. I have also loved Breath of the Wild and Hades, though I’m not looking for another roguelike/roguelite right now. (Yes, I know about Tears of the Kingdom!)

I’m a newer gamer, so please don’t assume I know about a thing. Also, sadly I only have a MacBook and a Switch, so I’m somewhat limited. (My computer has a fuckton of processing speed, but the graphics can be buggy even if Steam says things are available for Mac. :/ I play Stardew and Minecraft on it successfully.)

The five games I’ve mentioned in this post already have probably made up 95% of the hours I’ve spent gaming so far. Stardew and Skyrim are my favorites of the five. I want something(s!!! Please rec me lots of games!) with enough content I can sink my teeth into it for months, with structured quests/quest lines ideally. Nothing darker/grimmer than Skyrim or Hades, please. If it’s a franchise, tell me which one is the best for a beginner to that universe?

If you don’t know if it’s available on my platforms, please rec it anyway! I’m happy to check and add it to my Steam wishlist even if it’s only on PC, so I can remember that I want to play it when I eventually have the money for a gaming PC.

Thanks in advance! :D

I think it's very funny when people on tumblr tell me that "decolonisation is not a metaphor". Because, uh, yeah. I know that. My ancestors were colonised and stripped of our native lands, forced to assimilate and lose our culture, forced to convert and lose our religion. Every day I work to undo that damage. Every day I study Hebrew because my family could not do so safely under colonialism. Every day I pray to a G-d that my people could not safely worship under colonialism. Every day I study and embrace ancient Jewish ways of learning, thinking and being that were lost because of colonialism. I share this knowledge with my family, with my friends, and with my community. As an academic, I am actively involved in attempting to unmake the violent and continued coloniality of my people's homeland, hoping to undo the damage caused by Brits, Romans and Turks. I do that for the benefit of native peoples in the land-- all of them. Jews, Arabs, Druze, Samaritans and Bedu all deserve equality and peace. Decolonization isn't a metaphor to me. It's a constant way of life.

And what are you, non-indigenous American goy on tumblr, doing for your decolonization? Are you learning the Cherokee language? Sioux? Muscogee? Do you spend your spare time meeting with the indigenous tribes local to your area? Do you push your representatives to help those tribes have greater access to land, healthcare, and autonomy? Can you even list the names of the native peoples whose land you walk on without looking them up?

Or does your "decolonisation" look like an occasional land acknowledgement, reblogging lip-service posts about the plights of indigenous communities, and using your political views to justify attacking Jews on the internet? 'Cause patting yourself on the back for that sure looks like a metaphor to me.

A lot of pop psychology gets thrown around and since I already have a headache, here's preventing you lot from making it worse.

Love-bombing: A manipulation tactic of increasing affection and grand gestures before or after doing something abusive, specifically to weasel one's way out of consequences.

What it is not: A streak of affection and generosity towards friends/loved ones.

Trauma-bonding: Knowingly traumatizing someone to take advantage of their vulnerable state, to then act like the "hero" or the one who cheers them up.

What it is not: Bonding over similar traumas.

Gaslighting: *Knowingly* convincing someone they cannot trust their own perception of a situation in pursuit of one's own narrative.

What it is not: Misaligned perception of events.

Narcissist: Someone afflicted with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, a traumagenic cluster B disorder, that struggles with self-obsession, paranoia, craving validity from the public, delusions of grandeur, and social disconnection.

It is not: Your rubbish ex that cheated on you.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

It's my birthday! I've made the e-books in my Ko-fi shop pay-what-you-want starting at free for the day.

Gleam is a gothic fairytale, for anyone who's ever read Cinderella and thought, 'This is good, but what if it had ghosts in.' I got you.

Crown of Ivy is a retelling of the myth of Ariadne and Dionysus, inspired by The Song of Achilles and Hades.

The Hunt and the Haunting is a regency ghost story, a story about stories, for anyone who's ever read Jane Austen and thought, 'This is good, but what if it had ghosts in.'

You can pick up all three here in my Ko-fi shop!
