What made you want to create and become an artist? In high school, I was in art class not really thinking about art as a serious thing. My teacher put on a video about the painter/sculpture Alberto Giacometti and his work really moved me. There was so much soul to his work. I had always been okay at doing our assigned projects for class but seeing Giacometti and his work inspired me to try and create genuine artwork of my own.

How did you develop your own artistic style? When I started painting I didn’t really have a lot of paint or canvas to work with. So to stretch my materials I started working very minimally while still trying to make work that felt dense and powerful. I didn’t go to college so this also served as a way for me to figure out the basic mechanics of constructing a composition. Using very little elements, color became very important in adding a sense of scale and life to my simplistic work.

Do you have a dream project? I’ve always wanted to create sculptures that would be displayed in public for people to interact with. Most my work is very small so being able to create large scale work that people could actually step into would be a dream for me.

I just traded my neighbour a jar of raw honey for his parakeet’s corpse.

It is also worth noting that the only reason I have so much raw honey is because I made a dress for a beekeeper’s daughter.

And that I need the parakeet bones to make a necklace for the woman who fixed my antique cello.

And that I got the cello as payment for juggling at a child’s birthday party.

When did my life get this weird?

your life is a fucking sidequest
