what a nostalgic concept — HOME. stoking the flames of their makeshift campfire at the edge of yet another desolated town, it vaguely occurred to him how frequently the term had changed within the past three years. once upon a time, he may have endearingly labeled the WHITE CITY such — long before its memory clogged his veins like lead, and ash filled his mouth with a nauseating bitterness he never quite managed to wash out. instead, it festered : even as he stood with the FAMILY, what little loyalty they haphazardly pieced together was too broken to harbor love. how astounding, then, that he felt more at ease out here than elsewhere, despite the lethal IVORY raking up his arms.
❝ — are you trying to be wise? ❞ law quipped, a trace of amusement layering the boy’s voice. he grew so accustomed to whatever semblance of GUIDANCE was bestowed upon him that most days he only mustered to absently listen — a habit which initially prevailed as he poked at burning wood, sparking embers that rose skyward like FIREFLIES. they illuminated their figures in the dark, flooding corazon’s features with a golden warmth that prompted him to finally pause, to stare intently across the flames. an EPIPHANY manifested in his mind ( home is where the heart is ) and he wondered — could a given name truly be so coincidental? was said heart not his own for him?
for the first time, he thought home might be a PERSON rather than a place — an idea that drew a thin smile onto his lips and caused him to sink deeper into the sheltering cloak wrapped around his shoulders. perhaps there was some TRUTH to it. ❝ besides, i already know that, cora-san. ❞
