But here's the thing, why DID Iker show up in the first place? He's a Porto player now, he is not required to do as Perez says any more.

One answer: Iker was caught in a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation. Perez/club management advertised Iker’s “farewell ceremony” at the Bernabeu (PFFT) only after gauging the media/supporter reaction. It’s why so much of it was Perez attempting to justify himself and portray himself in a better light. Iker wasn’t initially invited, so by advertising it first, they force his hand–if he doesn’t come, it looks like he didn’t want to greet whatever fans were able to make it. If he did come, he’d be caught in a farce.Other answer: Iker just wanted to say goodbye to the stadium and to whatever fans came, even if he had to sit next to Perez’s jackass self in a complete farce of a goodbye.

“I thank all the Real Madrid supporters, all of those who have always had my back. And to those who I may have had a falling out with, I am sincerely sorry and would like to put that behind me. I’ll hold onto the good experiences. I’m just another Real Madrid fan and I will try to be an ambassador for the club wherever I go. I’ll try to reflect the Real Madrid spirit wherever I go” Iker Casillas, July 13, 2015
