—–This was not what Rey wanted. This was not how Rey had desired this interaction would transpire. It would be easy to slide the switch on Luke’s saber, initiating the beam of blue energy from the handle and then participate in the fight he clearly wanted. The memory of their prior battles was still fresh in her mind and the scars were perhaps still fresh on his skin. But this was not what she wanted, this endless conflict between them, never surrendering, never winning, both only losing, both only failing one another.
“You wish to see the power of the Jedi.” Rey breathed, her eyes falling to the saber in her hand, she’d yet to draw it, to do as he wished and she would not do it. “So be it.”
Without a word, Rey’s eyes went to the masked man before her, looking into the darkness where his own eyes should be. It was a shame. He had such lovely eyes. She dropped the saber and stepped away from it, never looking away, never fearing what he would do. If he wanted conflict he would not find it with her. Not today. “You once reminded me you could take whatever you want. What do you want now, Ben?”
REN IS STUNNED silent. For a moment, he’s but a gaping FOOL, unable to process her reaction. Is she testing him ? If he were to charge at her, would she beckon the saber back at the LAST second and rise to his challenge ? He stands RIGID, ebon eyes flickering between Rey and the discarded saber.
‶ I DIDN’T TAKE you for being so foolish. ″ There’s venom in his voice ; he can’t help but to be almost disappointed ––– fighting her is surely a test of his OWN strength, or so he thinks. ‶ What leads you to believe that I’ll play into your little GAME ? I could kill you where you stand. ″ Such strong words ; though Ren has yet to move even an inch closer. He doesn’t sense any conflict in her ––– like her choice has already been made and she’s standing FIRM upon it.
IS IT TRULY safe, then... ?
ONE STEP, THEN another, is hesitantly taken towards her, saber still drawn ; READY if she were to challenge him.
HE FALTERS, EYES narrowing over dark brows. Rey’s question echoes in his mind. What does he want... ? A trick question to throw him off ? Perhaps. ‶ I WANT you to fight. To draw the saber and try yourself against me.

SHE MENTIONS HIS mother and his eyes are QUICK to snap back open, sable hues once more locked on hazel. Ren pulls away, brows knit together and a scowl fiercely pulls at the corners of his lips. ‶ –––The Resistance doesn’t NEED me. ″ His words are bitter and all but hissed through his teeth. ‶ You KNOW they wouldn't HESITATE to kill me if given the chance. I can’t go with you. ″

REN SNARLS, AND ‘neath the veil of his mask, his countenance turns VICIOUS. The activated saber at his side crackles as gloved hands spin it at his side, embers FALLING with the snow.
HE’S LOSING HIS temper ––– he can feel the blood BOILING in his veins ; coursing like WILDFIRE. His composure is nearly lost.
‶ READY YOUR SABER ! ″ His voice is loud ; almost FERAL. ‶ I won’t tell you again.″ Ren wouldn’t feel satisfied if he were to strike her down without a FIGHT.

𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝, Rey didn’t move an inch away from him as he spoke, wanting to take in all his thoughts and words. 𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗳 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲’𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵. His failures, his insecurities ––– EVERYTHING. But still...as hazel eyes are met with ebon, he feels at ease. Like nothing else MATTERS in this moment.
IT’S ALMOST COMFORTING to hear her say his true name ; it makes it EASIER for him to be Ben while around her, rather than HIDING under the facade of Kylo Ren. He sighs, shoulders slump, and his eyes break contact as they instead turn to the floor ; ANYWHERE but Rey’s face. ‶ ––– Perhaps, ″ He replies, voice but a choked whisper. ‶ But it’s too late for me. ″
