“Sorry, habit.” Derek apologized and shrugged as he pulled his phone out, to scroll through his contact list. “I may still have an informant that lives there, maybe I can get them from the cop stand of view, not wolf.”
Pavel watched him closely, obviously curious but unsure, “An informant?” he asked, shifting to sit, unconsciously showing off his slender body again in that form fitting black.
“Every detective have informants everywhere where they can stay out of jail for information.” Derek explained and tried not to let his eyes trail down the slender and fit body. “They’re protected and unknown to other cops if they are only to one detective.”
“What if another cop arrests your informant?” Pavel considered him, that sharp brain turning over all these new facts with ease, “What if your informant feeds you misleading info. Or frames someone else.”
“If they get arrested by someone else, it’s their fault. The deal is I don’t arrest them for information.” Derek hummed and looked over to Pasha, chuckling softly. “They go to jail for obstructing justice and they have no more protection. A lot of them rather have protection than jail. A few of mine are upstanding people that just want to do good or just wants certain things in return. One of them is an old lady who lives alone so I come over and help out around the house, she feeds me information since she lives in a bad neighborhood.”
“Do you help kittens our of trees too?” Pavel smiled slightly, head cocking to the side as he contemplated the man before him, “Are you really this…noble, or is there more to it?” he was a pretty good judge of liars and he was curious. He was also distracted..Hale was very attractive.
“Only if a really adorable little girl’s kitten is stuck up the tree. Being a wolf helps.” Derek chuckled and looked over to Pasha. “This is how I was raised, despite some rough things in my past.” He answered, shrugging gently. “My mother was the same way and I would like to be like her in my way.” He added with a soft smile. “She didn’t rule with fear and power like most alphas do, but with respect.”
“I am looking forward to seeing you do so.” Pavel murmured, believing him for the first time, leaning back and relaxing, also for the first time. “So…tell me about yourself?” he murmured.
“I’m pretty sure I just did.” Derek teased and looked around the dark room. “How about we do this in a lighter room and over some delicious food? Coming back from wolfsbane makes me starving.”
The young assassin hesitated before nodding, “I can meet you somewhere.” he plucked his fingers over the form fitting black, “This isn’t really something to wear down at your local pizza joint.” the smile he flashed was bright and engaging but very fleeting before he looked back down and got to his feet. “I’ll meet you there?”
Derek looked down at himself, seeing the clothes all dirty and bloodied. “Same. How about the diner just outside the city in a hour?” He asked, already wanting to see more of the bright smile he just saw.
“I’ll see you there.” A small smile this time, a softer brightness, and he swung up into the rafters of the house and up out of the skylight above. disappearing like a shadow, or a ghost.
An hour later though a nicely dressed, cherubic faced, curly haired young man took a seat at the diner outside town, and ordered a lemonade as he waited, nervously for the other man to show.
“Black cat.” Derek muses to himself and managed to get himself home, dressed and cleaned like nothing ever happened. He changed into his good jeans and a Henley before making his way to the diner.
He walked in and used his nose to pinpoint Pasha, smiling softly when he sees the adorable male. “Hey.” He slid into the booth, ordering some coffee.
“Hey, fancy meeting you here.” Pavel’s lips quirked up playfully as he sipped his drink, smiling up at the waitress as she brought over a plate of hot chips to share between the two of them. “How have you been since we last saw each other.”
