Hey everyone! I’m sure you remember this lovely post suggesting fantastic movies of queer ladies. And I thought that I might be of help, and give you links to those movies with some lovely lesbian romance.

To see the summaries of the films, check the post that gave me the idea. They make good summaries, and make them funny too. :)

[YELLS “IMAGINE ME AND YOU” AT THE ROM-COMS]

These lists ALWAYS leave out ‘Imagine Me and You’, and it’s so frustrating because Imagine Me and You actually has a happy ending, as opposed to 80% of the films listed.

attention people who bind!

hi guys! so as you all know, we’re making our way into flu/cold season, so this is your reminder to never bind when you’re sick and/or congested alright?

binding when you’re sick or congested is really bad for you because:

  1. coughing while binding puts a lot of stress on your body, especially on your chest and back
  2. most importantly, when you’re sick/congested, there’s a lot of fluids in your body and lungs and since binding restricts circulation, these fluids can get trapped in your lungs
  • when this happens, your body won’t be able to heal properly, so you’ll stay congested/sick and possibly get worse
  • this will only increase the amount of time that you will have to restrain from binding

now, when i first got sick when i had first started binding, i only waited until my cough was almost gone and i was almost healed. after that, the cough/congestion started to get worse and i had to stop binding again (i wasn’t able to bind for like, a month) so trust me when i tell you to you should probably wait until your cold/flu is completely gone (and maybe a few days after that) before you start binding again

of course, if you’re very dysphoric going without binding can be hard, but luckily the weather is starting to cool off again so might i suggest:

  • large sweaters are very comfy and are a good option for hiding your chest
  • denim jackets/vests or similar type jackets with thick fabric and lapels are great at creating the illusion of a flatter chest

also, if for some reason you really cannot go without binding (maybe a special occasion or something), only bind for a couple hours at a time and take breaks, make sure to pay attention to your body

happy binding, friends!

Meet the Women of Stonewall

Since the trailer of the atrocious Stonewall movie was released, people are rightfully upset that it white-washes and erases the trans women and lesbian who started the Stonewall Riots. Posts are going around reminding us of these women, but usually only mentioned one or two, which I find a little a-historical. We should know who all these women are as they each played a significant role in what happened in June of 1969.

Stormé DeLarverie (December 24, 1920 – May 24, 2014)

Stormé was a biracial butch lesbian, drag king and considered the “Rosa Parks of the Gay Community”. When the police raided the Stonewall Inn, she was one of the women arrested and clubbed on the head by the police. She is credited with yelling  “Why don’t you guys do something?” which sparked the bystanders into action. (x) In her own words:

”[The officer] then yelled, ‘I said, move along, faggot.’ I think he thought I was a boy. When I refused, he raised his nightstick and clubbed me in the face.” It was then that the crowd surged and started attacking the police with whatever they could find, she said.
I asked my last question hesitantly. “Have you heard of the Stonewall Lesbian? The woman who was clubbed outside the bar but was never identified?” DeLarverie nodded, rubbing her chin in the place where she received 14 stitches after the beating. “Yes,” she said quietly. “They were talking about me.”
And then, almost as an afterthought, I asked, “Why did you never come forward to take credit for what you did?”
She thought for a couple of seconds before she answered, “Because it was never anybody’s business.” Stormé DeLarverie(source)

Marsha P. Johnson (June 27, 1944 – July 6, 1992)

Marsha “Pay it No Mind” Johnson was a black trans woman, drag queen and LGBT activist. She, along with Sylvia Rivera, co-founded the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR) and is credited as being the first to fight back at Stonewall Inn. (x) Happy Birthday, Marsha! is a film project in the works to honor life, please consider donating.

“This was started by the street queens of that era, which I was part of, Marsha P. Johnson, and many others that are not here" Sylvia Rivera (Source)

Sylvia Rae Rivera (July 2, 1951 – February 19, 2002)

Sylvia was a Latina trans woman, drag queen and LGBT activist. As mentioned above she co-founded STAR with Marsha P Johnson, as well as a founding member of the Gay Liberation Front and the Gay Activists Alliance. She is also credited with being one of the first women to throw a bottle at the police.

“You’ve been treating us like shit all these years? Uh-uh. Now it’s our turn!… It was one of the greatest moments in my life. “ Sylvia Rivera (Source)

Miss Major Griffin-Gracy (October 1940)

Also known as Miss Major, is a black trans woman and community leader for transgender rights with a focus on women of color. Miss Major was a leader in the riots who was struck by police and arrested. While in custody an officer broke her jaw. (x) A documentary called Major! is in the works to portray Miss Major’s role in the transgender activist community. (x) (I hope people watch this instead of Stonewall).

Many more people were involved in the riots, but one thing is clear, it was not started by cis white men, it was by these 4 women of color. Don’t let men take away our history.

Just to add a bit more information, Miss Major, Sylvia, and Marsha were all sex workers. Marsha and Sylvia were also both bisexual.

PHOTOS: Transgender Elders Show Us The Meaning of Survival

In the many years that Jess T. Dugan, a Boston-based trans photographer, has spent capturing images of gender-variant people, she says she’s consistently noticed a striking absence in both art and social sciences: imagery of older trans folks.

"And," Dugan explains further on her website, “those [representations] that do exist are often one-dimensional.” So Dugan set out to fill this gap, teaming up with social work researcher Vanessa Fabbre since fall 2013 to develop the evocative photo project, “To Survive on This Shore.” In the recently released collection, diverse trans elders ages 50 to 86 are pictured at home or in meaningful spaces, gazing unapologetically into the camera, as if asking the viewer to look deeper into their unique context and life story.

Someone asked us:  Can Planned Parenthood provide hormones to transgender people? And if so, what are the costs? Why yes, yes we do. There are an increasing number of Planned Parenthood health centers that offer hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for trans clients. (Cost will vary depending on your insurance and Planned Parenthood health center policies.) Currently, the Planned Parenthood health centers that offer hormone treatment for trans folks are:

California:

Colorado:

Maine:

Montana:

New Hampshire:

New York:

North Carolina:

Vermont:

Washington

- Calvin and Maureen at QueerTips

Here’s a list of all the Planned Parenthoods that currently offer HRT and other trans services — a list that is slowly but steadily growing. And yes, our lovely Ithaca Planned Parenthood location is listed, and operates on an informed consent basis.

Signal boosting for any and all of my transgender US residing followers who are unsure of a place they can get horomones. There are three places in NC specifically.

attention all gender neutral people

guys, just in case you didnt know, there is a gender neutral honorific

it’s Mx. (pronounced “mix” or “mux”)

examples: Mx. Huntley; Mx. Jones

It’s commonly used for someone who doesn’t wish to reveal their gender or nonbinary people, and is gaining acceptance in the UK.

As far as I’m aware Mx is 30 years old and is a legally accepted term in the UK that the government actually recognises.
