So during the Q&A someone asked Shea if she would ever hook up with/date another drag queen and (obviously) she turned to Sasha and said “So Sasha, if you’re not doing anything after the show….”. Everyone laughed and cheered and someone in the audience yelled “No ma'am” and Shea goes “No ma'am?! What do you mean ‘No ma'am?!?!” She then proceeded to try (and fail) to take off her jacket to “fight” whoever said that (Her sleeve got stuck on her bracelet). Also when Shea and Sasha were walking off stage, they held hands and danced/twirled and it was super cute.

We’re all going to have PTSD and agoraphobia by the end of April

Like, my grandparents lived through the Great Depression and never really managed to give up their learned habits from that experience. Now, instead of “Why are you guys sitting in the dark? You can afford to turn lights on…” it’s going to be “Why do you feel guilty about going to the grocery store? You aren’t infecting anybody.”

I’m already planning to have big bottles of hand sanitizer, and gloves for the rest of my life, also I want to buy an old school freezer, you know those ones that look like a coffin? I want one, and I want to fill it with frozen meat so I never EVER have to feel this fucking terror of what I’ll do if I run out of food.

This is an actual phenomenon called collective trauma, and yeah it can do just that.

Of course I love 'and they were quarantined' but take a moment and consider 'and they were videoconferencing.'

Two people who meet for the first time while social distancing. They work in different departments or in different cities. At first they're dressed business casual and keeping things professional. Then one day a pet appears and conversation gets casual.

They start sharing tips for how to exercise in a tiny apartment. They commiserate over the lack of favourite foods or activities. It turns out they were both going to go to an event that is now canceled.

Eventually, they're both in their pajamas. Work day is done, but their call has now moved to the evening. They cook the same meal, stream a movie together. When will this lockdown end?

So much potential for pining. So many longing looks. Social distancing video calling coworkers to friends to lovers.

How dare you leave this in the tags??

Carly rae jepsen knows when you like her ironically and every time you stan for her that way and she senses a mocking lack of conviction behind it, a little piece of her heart crumbles to ash

I feel like a lot of people have put immense pressure on themselves to accomplish/achieve something big during this quarantine so they don't "waste" time.

So many posts about how guilty they'll feel if they don't use this time to finally catch up on back-work, clean their house, organize, work, work, work.

Y'all need to remember that we're experiencing a global crisis, and to some degree, I think arguably a global trauma.

Right now, everything is uncertain, the future is vague, and the world is scary. We are all already under so much unprecedented pressure. Pressure to provide for ourselves and others, to stay safe, to keep others safe, etc. etc.

The LAST thing we need is to set ultimatums for our schedules and punish ourselves for not writing a damn book or reorganzing the garage all with the weight of Global Pandemic Crisis weighing on our minds and lives.

The truth is, no one needs to get a damn thing done during all of this except what concerns public health and services.

You don't need to clean the attic. You don't need to reply to all of your emails.

If doing those things makes you feel better, great! Have fun! But if they've become a tool for guilting yourself into being miserably "productive" in these trying times,

Give yourself a break.

idk who needs to hear this but nurses who work 16hr shifts aren’t heroes. they’re horrifically exploited workers& they don’t need thanks or applause, they need more colleagues and better labour protection

As a nurse I will say that it’s sad and has been a rude awakening to know that in times of widespread hardship, people will expect you to put your life on the line- and anyone you love and interact with- just to make up for the government and medical field’s greed. We have little staff, either because people are sick or just afraid to come in due to the fear of getting sick. We have little to no protective gear. The ONE face mask they give us per shift doesn’t do CRAP! Administration is no help for us on the actual field and these hospitals are trying to cover up new cases of COVID-19 to hide the fact that their “protection” for staff and patients is inadequate. This week alone, two of my patients have been confirmed cases and 3 medical staff have been confirmed too. It’s not heroic to see your fellow colleagues catch a deadly virus. It’s not fun to see young people my age, OR ANY AGE FOR THAT MATTER, be on a damn ventilator. IT’S TRAUMATIZING! And to think there are people who aren’t taking this seriously still!

Patients of surgeon Harold Gillies during WWI and WWII

Okay, these photographs pissed me off a bit, because they don’t show off how much of a genius Dr. Harold Gillies, the father of modern plastic surgery, was.  Rhinoplasty, skin grafts, and facial reconstructions have been practised for centuries.  However, it was this New Zealander surgeon who standardized these techniques and established the discipline of “plastic surgery.”

The introduction of more destructive weapons of WWI and WWII resulted in devastating injuries. In addition, in trench warfare, the head was more exposed than the rest of the body, and soldiers’ faces were often shattered or burnt beyond recognition. Despite the best efforts of surgeons, many soldiers were left hideously disfigured. Traditionally, the edges of facial wounds were simply stitched together, but when scar tissue contracted faces were left twisted and disfigured, so a new type of surgery was needed.

Gillies rebuilt faces using tissue from elsewhere in the body. Antibiotics had not yet been invented, meaning it was very hard to graft tissue from one part of the body to another because infection often developed, so Gillies invented the tubed pedicle,” where he used a flap of skin from the chest or forehead and “swung” it into place over the face. The flap remained attached but was stitched into a tube. This kept the original blood supply intact and dramatically reduced the infection rate.  After many surgical construction, grafting, and healing, which could take months to years, the tentacle-like tubing would be removed, and (volia!) a new face!

He was also the first to do sex reassignment surgery from female to male in 1946, then male to female using a flap technique in 1951, which became the standard for 40 years.

tl;dr, these were his patients BEFORE the surgery. He didn’t DISFIGURE these people he HELPED them.

This is amazing holy shit
