sew me back together

‘don’t hate. i’ve always been one of those boogers. where have you been? i still cause a ruckus in walmarts. like.. cart surfin’ ‘n shit. we should go to walmart together sometime.. experience the rebel lifestyle together.’

       “Why would ya’ even apply for Walmart in the first place? They treat their staff like shit and I’m never in any mood to get bum rushed by let loose children.” The ginger swayed. “Try Mcdanks. At least that way you get some free grub.”

‘because i must continue the legacy,’ lee retorts, raising a stray eyebrow. ‘i was once a child running rampant in a walmart; i must make sure that others continue what i have started.’

            Nao squatted besides her, laying a hand on her hip. His bony fingers tapped Lee a few times, comfortingly. “Because us gingers scare the normal populous.” 

lee gingerly (pun intended) lifted her head off from her pillows, her eyes narrowing at nao.

          “What do you know of my situation? What do you know of how solitude will change me? You are nothing to me, and you are a continuous nothing. Do not speak to me as if you have knowledge on who I am, because you know nothing.”

He snapped, then. She was smothering, choking, bleeding out the man and he could not stand to be spoken to. He hated this woman. Hated how she spoke, how syllables rolled off of her tongue and poisoned his behaviour. He was disgusted at how easily he had become irritated and aggressive by her stupid little words. 

                      “Contemplate your loneliness if you must, but do not think you and I are of the same nature. We are different, too different for you to offer me your friendship, as if it was salvation. I’m not a depraved animal.”

the pleasant albeit small smile on her lips automatically fades, eyes widening with swirling emotions of hurt and surprise. she had always knew the man in question was cruel and even sometimes undeserving of the life he had, but she didn’t expect him to be bitter enough to ‘reprimand’ her in public. he always seemed to have bark but no bite-- maybe she was wrong.

‘sorry for my assumption.’

           Interest painted itself on her visage at the others words, love? how silly. She didn’t say anything in response to it however she did nod, acknowledging the others affections. “Do you wish to know my favorite meal, Lee?” She might as well give the other some pointers if she’s going to cook for her, after all, she was rather picky with the food she ate and she didn’t want to hurt the others  feelings.

‘um.. yes,’ lee gives a nervous laugh, a big grin finding it’s way onto her  lips. it’s natural and childish, but she’s truly happy to learn more and more about maya. she did just admit she loved her-- no need to be ashamed in wanting to bask in maya’s vegetarian glory.

            `  i see…  ` 

      well, he doesn’t suppose he’ll be able to    help without hearing it. he glanced through    the papers a bit, looking back and forth    between the words and whatever notes she    had written down to try and decipher a little.    he glanced up at her and sighed softly, giving    her a small smile. 

            `  how about you try singing it softly for                me? it’s easier for me to point out                oddities if i can hear them in the music.  `

      it would give him a better judge on what lines   to change, what to pace differently, and what to   get rid of altogether. there was always the    possibility as well that the entire thing could be   salvaged properly if it was just reordered or   the tempo was a bit different.

‘‘kay.’

a little grin makes it to lee’s features as she adjusts herself in her seat before moving to grab her guitar by her side. her head whips  around to see if any librarians were present near the nook she had crammed herself into. there wasn’t, her mischievous little grin only brightening as  she began to pluck at  the strings. her heart’s racing, eyes glancing over to the lyric pages  so she could begin.

Not yours.

He wished desperately to say, but even he knew that such a jab was petty. Not that his attitude thus far had been the pinnacle of maturity. Still, the woman let the children savage her art supplies, a strange thing, considering how he perceived the woman to be a constant bitterness.

             “If it can be helped, I’d rather be alone.”

Not in her company. She was a memory of much darker times. Of bruises and beatings, screaming and silence, she was poison, and he detested her for it.

                     “Why seek my company, of all the public in the park? I wouldn’t pick you as the type to seek conversion.”

miaryam’s other eyebrow arches up to join the other, head tilting to the side to show how blatantly unimpressed she is. a frown fills her lips, eyes darting up and down astor.

‘it changes you.’

Where the woman was peaceful, Astor felt bitter. Irritation and tiredness crept upon him, and he forced himself quiet from insulting her, knowing it would be a fruitless endeavor. 

             “Do not waste time spouting pandering compliments. Did you want something from me, or is this simply to irk me?”

Despite the pleasant weather, the priest could not stand to linger uselessly. Perhaps it was because her appearance had bothered him, or perhaps it was the low churn of noise threatening to give him a headache.

                     “…If those are your paints, I suggest snatching them before the children do.”

He spoke blandly, gesturing with a slight nod to the canvas, the children comically playing with paints that he would hazard a guess at being expensive. Though he shouldn’t care in the slightest, he couldn’t help but to sympathise. He could not imagine having his things being played with.

‘don’t you ever want company?’ miaryam raises a deft eyebrow, obviously unimpressed with his show. her smile practically melts off her features, shoulders slumping with a loss of enthusiasm.

          “Cook whatever you want but I’m vegetarian, just remember that.” And for a reason that she hadn’t revealed to the other yet, how funny. It may be difficult hiding what she is if she other had constant access into her apartment for even she liked to roam about in her natural form sometimes.  Oops. “And I don’t like celery.” Oh heavens no, it tasted absolutely gross and left a dry feeling in her mouth as if she’d eaten a premature banana, ugh.

‘i will make you the nicest celery casserole you will ever see in your entire life,’ lee teases, her childish demeanor easily coming back as she tries to hold back giggles. she smiles brightly, a small laugh finally escaping her as she  looks at maya contentedly.
