ZIWA

@ziwa-eastafrica / ziwa-eastafrica.tumblr.com

A Kenyan & Ugandan Art Show Benefiting Arts Education in East Africa. ZIWA is a collective multi-media experience (photography, video, music and painting) providing an intimate experience of the vibrant culture, people and landscape of sister countries, Kenya and Uganda. Inspired by the continuity of creativity of East African youth, this event showcases photos and art created by professionals alongside equally captivating images shot by youth. ZIWA is Kiswahili for “lake” and in this instance, represents Lake Victoria, which directly connects Kenya and Uganda. All proceeds from this show will go to growing arts education in Kenya and Uganda by supporting two nonprofit organizations that serve this mission, One Vibe Africa (Kenya) and Bavubuka Foundation (Uganda). Featuring musical performances by African hip-hop pioneers Kamah of Kalamashaka and Babaluku of Bataka Squad. 2312 Gallery (2312 2nd Ave Seattle) Thursday July 3rd 2014 6:00pm - 10:00pm
