“As has been widely reported, in a 2011 interview with Political Vindication Radio, you disparaged lesbians, feminists and alumnae of the historic Seven Sisters Colleges, all in one statement that we deliberately choose not to repeat here. Other reported comments by you reflect other forms of bias, including racism, anti-Semitism and more. As the leaders of the Seven Sisters Colleges, we take deep exception to these comments and ask that you take a more expansive, informed and tolerant world view in your leadership role.“
On first truly blustery and cold day of the season, I have a few helpful tips in honor of Barnard’s shitty windows and overactive heaters.
1st Latina senator in US history. I like her already
Here are some good things.
“This was a white-lash.” This was because of white people. White people did this. Poor, rural, uneducated white people did this I am a white person. I did this. We, white people, did this. We have to do better. I have to do better. We have to do so much fucking better.
do u think the possibility of rooming with more than one persona is a good or bad thing for most freshmen?
Itreally depends. It is nice in that if you don’t like one person, there are other options. And you have more human contact and community built into your living space. But it’s a matter of knowing yourself. I, for example, am not a social butterfly and don’t do super well without a good amount of alone time. Still, I know other folks who have loved their quads.
Brooks Common Room, Barnard College. I’m slowly starting to love my study space.
“Barnard student in the 1950s”
Going through my school digital archives gets me motivated for the new year to come in roughly 2 weeks.
If this historical babe can get her shit together so can I.
What's the freshman bathroom story at Barnard? It's the only think I'm worried about, lol.
My floor’s was really clean. There will be the occasional puke-filled toilet or hair-filled shower, but there are folks who come and clean. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: clean up after yourself and encourage other folks to do the same. Yes, it is someone’s job to clean, but it is your floor’s job not to be a fucking asshole and make other people lives difficult.
How is the gym like at Barnard? Is it typically busy? Are Barnard students allowed to use Columbia's gym as well?
The gym at Barnard is in the basement floor of barnard hall and relatively small. I’ve never been there when it is actually crowded (I’m sure it depends on the time of day) but the treadmills/ellipticals are usually taken. We do have access to Columbia’s gym, which has an indoor track and many more machines but is also much more crowded. I don’t know the procedures of the place very well so I mostly avoid it because it makes me anxious. If you want something lowkey but a bit more social, Well Woman sometimes has events (a once a week group run or yoga). I’ve never been but its a nice way to have some low pressure/low commitment motivation to do something and get outside.
Facing Barnard College
Hi, I'm looking to transfer to Barnard for junior year but I have some questions on housing! Do most people move off campus by junior year or are the dorms still a popular thing? Or would it be smarter to try and get an apartment near campus? Also, is there a popular website where people look for roommates? Can't afford to live in upper east side alone lol
There is guaranteed housing all four years so very few people live off campus. Some people do of course, but if you live off campus and get financial aid your reward will decrease because it will no longer consider housing a part of your “need” (which is incredibly frustrating). And apartments near campus are ridiculously expensive so I would say it is generally much cheaper and easier to live on campus. But if you do want to look for roommates or other housing options I would suggest finding the different Barnard class pages (Barnard class of 2018, 2017 etc) and posting there.
Help Everyone Find A Job In Their Field
The highly requested room tour is here! This has been my little corner of the universe for the past year and probably the most lovely space I’ve ever lived in. It’s pretty tiny but I don’t share it with anyone which is a delightful perk that is much welcomed after living with three girls in one room all of last year! I’ll be leaving this room in the summer but I’ll be in the same building throughout the summer months before I move out for good in the fall as I’ll be taking my talents back to the freshman quad to become a first year RA! (pics will follow that move of course) hope you all enjoy 😁
