@sunsaturatedsidethoughts / sunsaturatedsidethoughts.tumblr.com

Ari (me), Daniel (husband, Pappa, chef), Lars (our first-born, son), Evangeline (our daughter, Bee), Felix (lucky number three!, our baby). We live in Hudson, NY. We have a restaurant, it's called DA|BA, I'd make a click through link but I don't know how to. Yis.

One month shy of 2 years old. He has lots of opinions about what he wears, loves to twirl, lines up his shoes when he takes them off, and is generally pretty hilarious and cute. And he just told me he needs coffee. #FUN

My youngest is the only one who figured out how to climb in and out of the crib while he still actually slept in a crib... So this is the first time that I've actually turned this crib into a toddler bed. Here's hoping it works the magic! Lars was 2 when he moved to a toddler bed and he didn't realize that he could get in and out of it on his own. He'd sit there in the morning. And just call for us. Bee never slept. Didn't matter where or what or how. Lars and Bee are so excited for Felix's "new" bed. Felix doesn't really care so much.

Today

Wake up half way on a mattress on the floor, toddler mouth kisses and a little voice saying “Cookies? Cookies!” I wonder what time it is and vow to end this game of musical beds. By 8:00 everyone is bathed and dressed and Lars is at school. Bee and Felix and I have second breakfast, I knit and procrastinate while mentally listing all the things I want to do today. By 10:00 Daniel has taken Bee to school, Felix is at daycare for the morning, and I’ve run 5 miles at a sub-8 pace, which is winning , these days. By noon I’ve had what seems like my millionth ENT appointment and basically been told it’s winter and you’re prone to getting sick… There’s a procedure I could have to open my sinuses. I don’t know if it will help or if it’s worth it. I’ll think. Bee and I have lunch together at home. She eats about 4 bites and changes into a dress up complete with wings and many stories… By 2:30 the house has been sort of cleaned, all the kids are home, and it’s way too cold to leave again and we don’t have to, so we won’t. My sister came over for a while. This was special. She is pregnant with her third child and I can count on one hand the number of times one of us has visited the other without kids in tow. My kids were zombied on tv so we got to talk! By 6:00 we’ve eaten and it’s so messy but everyone is happy. Papa is still working but the evening duties solo don’t seem daunting as they sometimes do. Baths are taken and the house looks like it was never cleaned. I’d love a glass of wine but we don’t have any up here. Oh well. Now it’s 8:00 and everyone is asleep. Felix stroked my hair and I didn’t (yet) regret that I caved and put his mattress on the floor so he can sleep by his sister. He said “oh night, mama! Uh ehhve you too!” (Obviously “good night, mama! I love you too!”), for the first time tonight, so probably I would let him do whatever he wants, I’m smitten. I have high hopes to make many sewn things, now… Hoping for a second wind!

“I just need one fart of ketchup for my hotdog, please” - Bee

In related news, we eat a lot of hotdogs. When people with one kid ask me how I handle having three, I’m honest; I lowered my standards. My kids eat hotdogs, carrots, apples, spinach, meatballs and chicken. And pasta. Sure, they eat other things too, but the two youngest rarely do, and it’s unpredictable. One way I’ve lowered my standards is by just making them what I know they’ll like as opposed to making them what I want or what I know would be better for them. Protein and vegetable are good. 👊🏼 Also, if Felix watched “let it go” on YouTube 4 times, that’s ok if it means the laundry got put away. Poor baby Lars was being force fed delicious vegetables and didn’t watch tv;)
