Olicity fanfiction AU/Trope/theme of the week

Hi everyone! great episode last night! So I wanted to try another fun fanfiction rec thing to share our love for our favorite authors. How about each week, we have one featured AU/trope/theme and we each name a favorite or two that fits that category? I will name a couple and you can reblog and share some too?

How about this week, since we just left Russia on the show, we start with Bratva AUs?

Fic recs vol. 13

Seriously, you guys are on fire this week! I already did a list for 5x20 fics so I won’t list those again, but please check out all that amazing work too. And give lots of love and comments.

Things Left Unsaid by @nerdyandturdy New soulmate fic! Love it!  This is a story of the six times Felicity could have told Oliver about their mark, and the one time she finally does.

Happy Birthday Oliver by  mar_dlr  This was inspired by the episode summary for 5x22 which says that Felicity organizes a birthday party for Oliver. For the purpose of this story, Oliver and Felicity have recently reunited.

Burning Heart AU by @arienhod  One-shot stories from Burning heart universe that didn’t fit inside the original story. AKA all the ways Oliver and Felicity learned about Mirror marks.

I Wrote Your Name in My Heart by @alanna-the-lionheart  One cold night in December, a group of men kidnap Oliver right in front of Felicity. They leave behind no ransom or demands, no hints to his fate, and no clues to follow. As the new year starts, the team begins to lose hope that they will ever be able to save the Green Arrow; all except Felicity, because Felicity just got Oliver back, and she’ll be damned if she’s going to lose him again. Her hope pays off in the end…but when they finally find Oliver, they find a broken man they barely recognize. Felicity vows to do whatever it takes to make the man she loves whole again.

From Neighbors to Something More by @bitchwhwifi  Felicity moves into a new apartment and doesn’t really have the most natural relationship with her neighbor, the one, and only Oliver Queen.

You Built Me from a Broken Heart (So Now What’s Mine is Ours) by @felicityschattycathy  When Felicity found out that Oliver Queen, Bratva Captain, would be attending the annual Starling City Ball, she was expecting a hardened, cold man. She was expecting a man so rigid you would think he was a statue, a man so tormented that his eyes would be as black as the night.And Felicity was right, Oliver Queen was all of these things. He was every bit the monster people feared, but never with her.Felicity never expected to fall in love with this monster, nor the sensitive, sweet man he kept hidden from strangers. She never expected to find a broken man so willing to love unconditionally.

Stuck With Each Other by @wetsuiton  It’s late, everything in the airport is closed, and our flight just got cancelled. I have never met you before but I guess we’re stuck together until the next flight. 

Sometimes, Love isn’t Enough by @arrowfan437 - Another soulmate fic. A mark. In this world, it defines you. And who you are with your partner.Felicity’s been searching all around for the one that’ll bring meaning to her mark. And she found him.But after being around him for so long, she wonders why she was given the mark at all.

Just a Small Town Girl by  Emilyymay_x  Oliver Queen is forced by his mother to go and live in the small town of Bettenkirk - his father’s hometown - for a month after several misdemeanors on his part and as a change of scenery. Can he survive in a place which has a population of just over 2,000, and where everyone knows everyone? Or will Oliver give in before he gives the town a chance - before he gives the charming Felicity Smoak, a local, a chance?

They Call this Relaxing? by  writinglover123  Set during early season 3. There is a Killer on the loose— no surprise there— but what is surprising is that they are targeting rich couples who have been participating in a week long couples’ therapy program at the notoriously known Romantic Rejuvenation Retreat just outside of Starling City. With a case this serious, Oliver and Felicity must go undercover as an engaged couple to find the killer. This might just be their hardest mission yet, and not just because of the extensive list of close proximity activities and bed sharing they will be forced to undertake.

Always a Bridesmaid by @hope-for-olicity -  Felicity must return to her hometown for the first time since high school to stand in her friend Sara’s wedding and connects with her old high school crush Oliver Queen.

Felicity Smoak - model, international star and murderer? by @tdgal1 Felicity is on trial for murder and Oliver is her attorney.

The Hardest Target by @laurabelle2930  When Felicity was a child her father developed an AI program that eventually brought their family fame and fortune. As she grew her father faded away his business grew and their bond shattered. After a car accident almost got her best friend Sara Lance killed Felicity’s father made a choice…this choice would radically alter the course of her life. Now 5 years after the plane crash that killed her father and left her stranded she’s come home to defeat the enemies her father’s work created. The target is H.I.V.E’s gun for hire, his name is unknown but his skills are deadly. He works for Damian Darkh who’s allied with the one and only Quentin Lance Starlings chief of police. The only problem with her brand new life is Oliver Queen. He feels foreign yet familiar at the same time. She’s drawn to him as he is to her but the question is why? What brings them together and what could potentially tear them apart?

Arrow Fanfic I Read and Liked, Week of 4/24/17

Apparently, when I’m unemployed, I read fic!  In between training for the next job, running all the errands and doing the chores I put off for 3 months, writing, and catching up on TV, of course.  I’m on a mission to get caught up on all my WIPs so that I can add some new ones–8 more to go!  This week I read:

the most recent chapter of Pieces of Always by @dust2dust34 and @so-caffeinated - It’s 2031, and a conversation between Felicity and Thea turns serious.

chapters 2-6 of Guardian Angel by @felicityollies - Prompt-based one-shots in an AU where Oliver falls for Felicity, a single mom who lives in his apartment building.

Countdowns and Silver Linings by @adiwriting - Fifth grader Tommy Merlyn does not understand why his best friend won’t stop talking about Valentine’s Day.

I re-read and got caught up on Keep on Dreamin’, Even If it Breaks Your Heart by mitchievw - Super sweet and fluffy AU where Oliver and Felicity are high school sweethearts.

the most recent chapter of The Arrangement by @queensoverwatch - Oliver and Felicity are escorts who occasionally hire each other.

the final six chapters of Once More (From the Top) by @writewithurheart - Oliver loses his duel with Ra’s, falls off the mountain, and wakes up…in the hospital in Starling City, in 2012, just after he was rescued.  Also, Mountains to Climb - events related to Once More, occurring post-season 4.

the final chapter of The Magician’s Final Disappearing Act by @realityisoverrated-fic - Malcolm kidnaps the kids.  Also Test and Adjust - Early in their relationship, Felicity returns from 2 weeks in Las Vegas to find that Oliver and Tommy’s relationship has progressed.

So now you know by jasminemai - Season one, except that Felicity was one of Sara’s closest friends, was pregnant when the Gambit went down (by some random dude she met at a club), and forms a friendship with Tommy based on them both losing their best friends.  This basically turns into him platonically co-parenting her daughter, but he’s still dating Laurel, Oliver is still the Arrow, and everything else is pretty much the same.

Coming Home by Dr Piletre (Tvist) - outsider POVs (Moira, Digg, etc.) on Oliver in early season one.

also the arrow writers: sorry we don’t have time to fully explore her’s storylines, but it was fun to actually get a chance to articulate the anti-Felicity point of view.

Olicity Fanfic Recommendation

I am back with another fanfic recommendation/review/meta. This time it’s You built me from a broken heart (So now what’s mine is ours) by @felicityschattycathy, a Bratva-fic of some different kind.

Like usually I am going to try not spoiling too much of it. Even if some things are going to be spoilt, it’s still worth reading the fic, though. Spoiler alarm for the review – I really, really liked the fic.

Now let’s dig a little deeper into the many reasons for that.

It has taken me a long time to respond to this, and I want to explain why. I feel quite undeserving of the way you speak so highly about my fic. I never, ever consider myself to be a great writer. I’m mediocre at best and oftentimes skip over details because I’m just too damn lazy. I see fanfic writers explain their in depth research process. I see them discuss their careful creation of original characters. And I read their meticulously detailed paragraphs that suck you into the fic and make everything else melt away.

When it comes to writing, I have no process. I just write what comes to mind and that’s it. I rarely worry about structure and all the important parts that make a good fic. I rush through scenes sometimes because I’m too excited about the next part to really care about the first part. It makes me feel a bit like a fraud at times. So for you to so perfectly dissect my fic is a real honor. Hell, even getting recognition for this fic is an honor. 

You made me look at my own fanfic in a different way, perhaps in an even better way. You put so much thought into this recommendation and I really need to commend you for that. I think I shed a fear tears when reading this and honestly, I can’t even begin to put a name to what emotions ran through me. 

When I got the notification for this post, I genuinely thought you made a mistake and tagged the wrong person. This fic is not one that is often talked about. You don’t see people recommending this fic often. You don’t see a freak out on twitter when it gets updated. It hasn’t popped up on any fic blogs. But that’s okay! I’m not looking for fame by any means. I’m simply hoping people enjoy it, so when posts like these are made it feels so freaking incredible because it reminds me that I’m writing for people who are invested in it, who enjoy it, who want more of it, who understand it, who love it just as much as I do. (Seriously, when someone commented on this post saying they were looking for this fic and wanted to re-read, I almost died of happiness). 

I read your post more than I care to admit, and every single time I ask myself: “Did I really write this fic?” This is why I’ve struggled to respond to you. I don’t believe I am capable of writing the fic you describe. The manner in which you speak about it is so eloquent. You make me want to read my own fic! I still cannot comprehend how I could have written one of your favorite Olicity meetings. Nor how I could have written one of the most heartbreaking backstories for Oliver, so you say. These compliments are overwhelming to say the least, and I am so grateful that I was able to write something that impacted you in such a way (even if it is difficult to give myself credit for it). 

I’m sure you know that a comment to a fanfic writer is the best gift a reader can ever give a writer. Well, consider this post equivalent to at least 500 comments. I will try my best to live up to this recommendation. It is everything to me and will surely stay with me for quite some time. Thank you so much for your time and effort, and most of all thank you for reading my story xo

I’ll keep this short and sweet. Short like my height, sweet like your nature.

(Okay but, you’re legit the Devil sometimes soooo!)

Words cannot literally describe how blessed I am to have you in my life for two years now. Wow, time has flown. I guess that happens when you’re having fun, ey? 

When people say Internet Friends are not true friends, well they have no idea what the hell they’re talking about. Or missing out on. I’ve learnt that words can be as important as physical presence. Just knowing that you are only a text away from the other side of the world makes me feel like earth is smaller than it seems on days that things feel too large to cope with.

Because you’re one of my closest friends e v e r. Seriously, I think of you as a best friend who I can confide and trust in. And I don’t do that often, so consider yourself lucky (or not, depending on how you look at it! hahaha). You are always there for me and I’ll forever be grateful for the support and wise advice you’ve given.

I love that we can just chill and be ourselves, chatting about shows and ships, fanfic and writing, trash detective work and other random shit we tend to find ourselves in :P. It’s truly so much fun when we chat, and it means so much to me!

So thank you for the past two years, and here’s to many more! Let’s hope there’s a RL hug in our future…

I’m so lucky to have met you. Who knew my super smutty fic would bring us together?! As you already know, I lowkey hate that fic BUT I will always be grateful for it because it’s the reason I met you! You have been a wonderful friend to me these past two years and I am extremely proud of our friendship. 

When I discovered the fandom life, I would always see people interacting with fandom friends. I never thought I would experience that, but since chatting with you I certainly have! Even better, we’ve surpassed fandom friendship and are just really awesome friends in real life. We’re one of the lucky ones, Emm!   

Thank you for always being there to chat with. Thank you for reminding me of things I forget (this sounds deep but my memory is just really bad lol). Thank you for being a positive guiding force in my life. Thank you thank you thank you!
