Word reached entertainer Dean Martin, who called the boy in the hospital, sent an autographed picture and wrote a note to “my namesake.” Martin said “it does my heart good to hear that you have made such a wonderful recovery. Keep fighting and don’t ever give up.” Martin arranged for a benefit screening of his new movie with Jerry Lewis, “Pardners,” at Proctor’s Theater in Troy. Martin also made a private donation and sent proceeds of 1,000 copies of the cast recording of the movie to go to a fund to help defray expenses of the boy’s two-month hospital stay. [x]
