Moonlight Serenade

“Next to golf, Dad always liked sleeping best. After about an hour of making an appearance at a party, Dad would meander back upstairs, put on his pajamas, and go to bed.”

Word reached entertainer Dean Martin, who called the boy in the hospital, sent an autographed picture and wrote a note to “my namesake.” Martin said “it does my heart good to hear that you have made such a wonderful recovery. Keep fighting and don’t ever give up.” Martin arranged for a benefit screening of his new movie with Jerry Lewis, “Pardners,” at Proctor’s Theater in Troy. Martin also made a private donation and sent proceeds of 1,000 copies of the cast recording of the movie to go to a fund to help defray expenses of the boy’s two-month hospital stay. [x]

Humankind dies one way, we another. Their end is final. Ours is not. In the earth, in rotting wood, in the eternal darkness, we will see and hear and feel.
