anyway female characters get to be cunning and selfish and opportunistic too. y’all say you want strong female characters but the moment they show any kind of agency you crucify them while the male characters who show those same traits in the same media are excused or woobified. masculine characters get to be conflicted and self serving while we ascribe them hidden depths but god forbid a woman do something that’s not completely pure or altruistic for five goddamn seconds. 

cannot stop thinking about how good the fabrication of consent in squid game was… like yeah, the participants consent! over and over, from agreeing to the slapping game to ringing up the number of their own accord to meeting at the location to signing a separate sheet once more upon arrival… they can even disband the game if the majority decrees it. but this is all performative. because of course they’ll agree - of course they’ll come back.

the second episode is even all about addressing this ‘consent’, and that potential audience superiority: “so why don’t they just leave???? if they can??? why did they even do all this to start with?? it’s so extreme, to do all that just for money, i would never”

because, the show says, look at what they’re returning to. look at the life that’s offered as their alternative. debt up to their ears, money-brokers beating them up, poverty at its worst. do you see? do you see how yeah, joining that game is optional, but it’s optional in the sense of choosing to be stabbed or shot: theres consent, but not actual desire. that theres agreement, but under exploitation. there’s a reason only poor people are chosen to compete and it’s so obvious but i fucking love how the show handles it and addresses any audience superiority anyway

25% is better than 0%. trying a little is better than not trying at all. eating a protein bar is better than nothing. using dry shampoo is better than not showering. cleaning one section of your room or house is better than not cleaning any of it. writing a paragraph of your essay is better than not starting it. whatever you can manage today is okay. you can try again tomorrow. little steps are to be proud of.

I'm awfully late but I wanted to try @slayersweek 's Artober challenge. I loved the songs concept! Sadly I don't have much time to draw lately so I'll probably skip a lot of days but I really want to do this. <3

I hope I find someone that loves me the same way Stephen Colbert loves his wife ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

The one and ONLY redeeming factor of 2020’is that Stephen has been stuck at home for the entire quarantine, so he’s been forced to do his bits at his house. Which looked real hard for him, since he doesn’t have an audience laughing at his jokes.

And the thing is, when he came back to his studio, he’s not allowed to have crowds there either because of New York’s restrictions.

But without fail, every other joke, you can hear this one, single woman laughing in the background.

That’s his wife.

Covid restrictions don’t apply to his spouse, and everyone else in the studio has a job, and has to work, so she’s become the only person in the room left laughing at his jokes.

She doesn’t laugh every time. You can tell she’s not doing it on cue, because there are some bits she clearly likes better than others. Some bits where she is laughing her ass off, and some where she just chuckles.

But my god, every time she laughs, Colbert’s face lights up like the sun.

Like, even if every other person on earth was dead and gone, if he was on his deathbed and breathing his last breath, he’d still make a jokes, just to make her laugh again.

So yeah. Get you someone who loves you like Stephen Colbert loves his wife.
