Advice wanted
So fam, I need some advice from all of u cause I have no idea what to do atm…
I have been working here in London for 2-3 months as a social media manager and spanish translator, as some of u already know, and yesterday I got an email from an agency offering me another job (im retarded and i forgot to remove my cv from the website).
The job seems very good, i get paid around 21-23k (im getting 15-16k atm), its closer to where I live and its still about translating stuff into spanish but the thing is that I like my current job. Im getting along with everyone really well and my job is ez and something that I do enjoy. Also I dont feel alright leaving after only 2-3 months. So here I am, being a confused potato cause I have no idea what to do…
Any advice? :(
It’s really a situation where you have to decide what’s more important- The hours you have at home, your income, and a friendly work environment.
You never really quite know how good a work environment will be or not, and the amount of stress a bad workplace can have is definitely worth taking into consideration since it’s the unknown.
But that’s a very significant pay increase, and a shorter commute means more time at home (assuming the work environment isn’t such that they make you work overtime constantly!)
I think at the very least, it would be worth taking a personal day to go into the office and see what the climate is like there, rather than taking a leap.
The thing is, this is your livelihood. So your decision has to be made on what’s best for YOU. I know how hard it is to leave a job you like, especially when you’re still so new there. You don’t want to leave these people wanting. So I think for maintaining a good relationship with them, and for your own conscience and peace of mind, you should make sure the new employer is willing to give you time before coming aboard, and that you can give your current company 2~4 weeks to find a replacement for you. 2 weeks is generally considered the minimum, at least in America. For a place you really like, you want them to have not only the time to find a replacement, but also to get them through orientation and trained, so there isn’t a time lapse of a capable person in your post.
Alternatively, you can also go to your current boss and say “Hey, I received this offer, and it’s very tempting, but I also really like it here. Is there anything you can do to convince me to stay?” and have a raise amount in your mind that would make it worth staying where you like over taking such a huge raise for yourself. Even if you still won’t be making as much as the new offer, if you can get closer and not have to leave your company, it’s still good! (But you HAVE to be ready and willing to leave if the offer isn’t good enough!)
I can totally see both points from both of you.
The thing is that if I would have been working there for a year, I’d totally switch jobs, but I’ve been only there for such a short time that I don’t feel like I... achieved anything, if you know what I mean. I didn’t go like “Oh okey, this is my limit, this is all I can do here in this job and it’s time to move on”.
Also, I don’t have the job secured yet and maybe they don’t even want someone who is already employed (I just answered to their email explaining this whole situation) and I know that after 6 months I will get a raise in my current job, probably still not as good as that one though.
SO COMPLICATEEEED T-T
