Defiance Gift Guide v2015

One of our favorite Christmas traditions is the Defiance Gift Guide. There might not be a lot of official merch out there, but we’ll take what we can get! Below are some great gift ideas for the Vofan in your life. Or if you have any other suggestions, drop us a line and we’ll add it!

DVDs / Blu-rays

Seasons One and Two have been out for a while for USA customers, but you can now look for Season Three for US release on Tuesday, December 22. Shop around the big box stores see who has the best deal. No word yet on a mega, all-encompassing box set of all three seasons, but perhaps we’ll see one in 2016.

Songs of Defiance Season Two

Released in may 2015, Songs of Defiance features instrumental and vocal tracks heard on Defiance during the second season. Want a CD with a song titled “Datak Love Shack” or the AMAZING cover of “What’s Up”? This is the gift. The CD pressing was limited to 1,000 copies, so be sure to snatch up your copy of your favorite Votan- and English-language hits.

E-Rep Magnets

By far, the coolest item to have come out of the NBC Experience Store (aside from probably non-Liz Lemon-approved TGS shirts) are these Season Two E-Rep magnets. Really nicely packaged, unique product that is sure to be a great collectible in years to come.

Get 20% off plus free shipping on your purchase of $49 or more with code FAMILY.

AbbyShot

Canadian retailer AbbyShot has a line of four officially licenced Defiance t-shirts (mostly in unisex cuts) that came out in 2015. Our favorite is the E-Rep shirt with the logo design and insignia on each sleeve. The masterpiece of the Defiance collection is definitely the official replica of Nolan’s jacket. Worn long, worn short, with or without sleeves, it’s the ultimate item for your Nolan cosplay.

Redbubble

There are plenty of super-talented fan artists out there who have cool Defiance-inspired designs available on t-shirts, stickers, cell phone cases, mugs, prints, pillows, and more. Check out some of our favorite artists’ designs from Daz, Death to Dickens, IndoLovePaints, and StudioofMM.

Hellbug Plushies

We’ll never stop getting requests for those 6″ and 12″ hellbug plushies. Some of you make your own, some of you scour ebay for weeks...months...many more months...until you finally get your hands on one. They weren’t marketed by NBCUniversal, so if you wanted one, it was up to the buddies at Trion, and even those were in a limited batch. If you’re lucky, ebay is your best bet. Happy bidding!

PSA If you didn’t make it, somebody else did. It didn’t just magically appear into being.  Google isn’t actually a google of tiny elven creatures that live inside your computer and create awesome graphic works of art for your re-posting and credit-taking entertainment. Google itself is not a source and if you “can’t find the source”, then use something you can source and give credit to.

Sometimes, you need a PSA and nothing says PSA like a Dickens’ drawing.

Time to bring this one back for old times’ sake.

This is what happens when you reach into someone’s chest and rip out their heart with head canon for your own character, itsnicolemunoz. You get emotionally painful drawings of Christie’s would-be Instagram full of Lukey Bear for your 21st birthday.

I really hope you have a glass of wine in your hand right now.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NICOLE!

This Friday begins the third season of Defiance on Syfy. Unlike last year, chances are Defiance is also airing starting this month outside of the USA as well. Huzzah! This means, more or less, everyone gets to watch and experience Season Three together.

This means that for Season Three there can be a stronger, more unified social media presence. Please read below for fun tips and more on engaging with Defiance over social media and ways you can support the show we love.

Before You Watch

Social Media Basics

Twitter and Facebook are definitely up there with the best ones for doing so. Here, there are lots of things you can do, such as:

Add #Defiance to your Twitter bio

Want to follow cast and crew on social media?

Check out Castithientogenes link for Defiance cast, crew and fellow Vofans if you need a place to start.

While You Watch

One of the best features of the Defiance community is the strong live tweet presence this show has. While there are many shows out there that have casts who tweet along with the live broadcast, we can’t think of many where the cast not only tweets but actually takes the time to interact with the fans’ tweets. It’s one of the reasons we watch Defiance live: to experience the show and the live tweets from cast, crew and Vofans alike.

A Few Quick Words About Tweeting

Be courteous to everyone in the Vofan community! We’re a relatively small fandom and it’s great that everyone has the opportunity to take part in this experience. We enjoy the myriad of opinions in the group and we take pride in the fact that not everyone agrees all the time. Remember that we are all here because we all love Defiance and we encourage respectful interaction among fans.

Be respectful if you’re tweeting at Defiance cast and crew or Syfy staff. Don’t demand follows, replies, retweets, favorites, spam them, threaten them, etc. We’re fortunate to have an absolutely superb cast who actively engages with their fans over Twitter and at conventions around the world. Be polite, be respectful, be kind - we can’t stress that enough.

Remember: Always #Defiance your tweets!

1) Use the #Defiance hashtag only once per tweet.

2) Retweet tweets using #Defiance. If you retweet and comment using that new Twitter feature, be sure to add #Defiance to what you write.

3) Use the hashtag in each of your Defiance-related tweets.

4) Interact with other fans and the cast live tweeting. Hell, retweet a cast tweet add #Defiance on there if they left it out.

5) Tweet to the sponsors and add #Defiance to your tweet. Thank the companies that purchase ad time during Defiance…especially the good folks over at Dodge who make those busted-ass rollers you see on the show and in the game. Make sure that your tweets are positive engagement!

6) Adjust your trending settings. This is absolutely critical. Every time there is a tweet that says, “DEFIANCE IS TRENDING!!!”, we want to find the off-switch, settle our tab and collect our scrip. It’s easy to get #Defiance to trend locally on your device when you’re following a whole lot of Defiance-oriented accounts. In order to see if #Defiance is trending for the USA, adjust your settings to the following:

a) Click Change where your Trends are located.

b) Choose Change when asked if you want to Change or Keep Tailored Trends.

c) In the text box, start typing United States and choose United States (All cities). This will set your trends to the entire United States.

d) Press Done to confirm your change.

e) Your trends section should now say United States Trends.

After You Watch (or If You Watch Later)

DVR, PVR or VOD Are you watching Defiance after it airs live? Great! NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment announced back in January they are shifting to a L+3 (live plus three days) when looking at ratings on their cable networks. Defiance viewership increased by 70% when taking L+3 into account. (x) Now, it’s even easier to get your viewing counted.

When you watch on your DVR or VOD, make sure that you’re watching the commercials too! For VOD watches, Fast Forwarding may be disabled, in which case you’ll be watching those advertisements regardless.

*Legal Places* to Buy or Watch Defiance

* free for Amazon Prime members

Please note that Defiance is not available on Netflix in the USA due to a special licensing agreement with Amazon.

Play Defiance Defiance is free-to-play on the PC and there are many active players out there for you to join up with.

Word of mouth Tell your friends about Defiance!

We kindly ask you to reblog this post on tumblr and share this post on Twitter as well to help get the word out! We definitely want to see a fourth season of Defiance and to help do our part to get our beloved show renewed again.

Thank you to deathtodickens for the Vofantastic artwork!

Join us on Twitter at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT for the Season Three premiere of Defiance. We’ll see you there!
