This is a simple but probably heavily painted greek funerary stele without antae but with five antefixes, probably from the early 4th century BC.

The stele shows the depiction of a young hoplite sitting on the prow of a military trireme, holding his head melancholically, his hand resting on his knee. He has left his helmet and shield on the ground beside him.

The sea was probably depicted as a blue band on the polished surface of the lower part of the stele. The painted scene must have been completed by the depiction of a rock.

The identity of the young man who probably died in a naval battle is known to us from the inscription carved on the epistyle: Demokleides Demetrio. Demokleides was probably a member of the crew of a warship that either sank or he lost his life during a battle.
