He tries to imagine it, a world without the smile of Cissa. Without the way that she looks when they’re out on the water, gold hair up in a bun, sunglasses covering her bright eyes. She’s been a source of light and friendship since they were small, toddling around without a care in the world. Since before she learned to act prim and proper when they were in public. HIs favourite version of Cissa, he thinks is when she is visiting in the summer, her long hair shining in the light like strands. She looks softer- braiding Abby’s hair in the sunroom waiting for tea. He smiles at her.

“I couldn’t imagine my world without you in it, Cissy. Wouldn’t be right. I wouldn’t just miss you. I’d be incomplete.”

she sought him out, honestly. the day was too cold for her liking and narcissa was feeling lonely – not an uncommon emotion nowadays. and although she could always turn to marlene for solace, some days were just not right for it. some days, she needed her oldest friend. her closest one, when push came to shove.

once she caught a glimpse of golden hair, color that mirrored her own, the girl gracefully folded her legs beneath her body and settled in beside him with a gentle smile.

“please tell me you’re not in the mood to be alone. i need company – specifically yours.”

there’s a sort of listlessness that Nate isn’t used to or fond of. It’s not that he minds being inside- he likes cozy blankets and roaring fires and a warm cup of tea just like everyone else, and he’s not too proud to admit it out loud. There’s something about being told to stay inside that makes him feel trapped. 

the clouds are heavy and grey, making the sky above look just as startlingly white and soft as the gorund below. He’s tapping his fingers on the spine of his book, foot tapping on the floor as he hears the familiar sound of her heeled feet on the ground. 

“I could use a friend. “ He smiles and scoots, placing his book on the table beside him. “Specifically you.”

hey friends I know that my activity has been spotty at the very best recently. I think I’ve gotten over whelmed just by the sheer effort that it takes to be on so many accounts all at once. He comes off cocky, but Nate see's the heart of him- like a talent he can't turn off- so when it's late, in the summer, on his boat just the two of them, tan legs swinging off the side, he turns and presses his mouthfirmly to Gid's, calloused hand twirled into blonde locksthat nearly match his own.       A quiet "Shh." follows, calm before and after the storm.
