just a quick reminder

selfishness is putting the wants of yourself over the needs of others.

self respect is putting the needs of yourself over the wants of others.

one is disregarding others, one is taking care of yourself.

the difference between the two is the difference between being a friend and a doormat.

taking care of yourself does not make you a bad person

i repeat:

taking care of yourself does NOT make you a bad person

And you need to take care of yourself in order to take care of others!

Discussing Colorism be like...

“I didn’t choose to be light skin…”

“People ask me if I’m mixed..”

“Not all light skinned people…”

“You’re just mad at light skin people…”

“My boyfriend is dark skin..”

“Dark SKINS…”

image

“I would be darker if I could…”

“Y’all playing into a fake letter. This is all fake Willie Lynch stuff.”

“We all Black. We still niggas. Light or dark, it don’t matter.”

Fun fact: I didn’t really make this post. These are REAL responses from people on ONE of my posts about colorism. Think about that.

This was in my activity feed 😂🙃

It’s hard to know whether to laugh or to cry at the human predicament. Here we are with so much wisdom and tenderness, and—without even knowing it—we cover it over to protect ourselves from insecurity. Although we have the potential to experience the freedom of a butterfly, we mysteriously prefer the small and fearful cocoon of ego.

Black girls deserve to learn free from bias and stereotypes.

Most black girls experience this hatred at schools. And classmates are not the only problem, there is no support from teachers, too. That’s why they get so affected by their school experiences. Black kids deserve to be treated just like everybody else, they want to study, they want to learn something ,too. However due to prejudice they are 5 times more likely to be suspended than their white peers and it can ruin their lives forever.  National Women’s Law Center created this video to change the situation. Join the movement to help black girls feel normal and get the same opportunities everybody else has.
