She didn't know what she had hoped for, only what she wished. What had she wished? That he'd open the door, open his arms, bring her back into his life and it would be as if she had never left? Bull, that wasn't happening. But he did open the door. He, the man she had come back for.
His voice cut straight through her heart and she hid a sob. Her hand jumped to her mouth at the sound of her name, watching him silently as he responded with what looked like utter shock. Shock? Was that a good thing or something very much the opposite? She didn't know. But even so, she didn't want to remove her eyes from him just yet. He was the one she wanted to see, he was the one she was keeping her eyes on and not planning on removing them any time soon.
Her mouth opened behind her hand, trying to speak and holding a sob of sadness and joy and disbelief back. Him. John. Really truly him, and not another one of her programmed memories. The way he'd opened the door, standing tall, so high above her that time after time she had to reach up to him, for anything really, and she loved it so very much. Their height had always been perfect, in her eyes. That voice was still the same, that voice.
The way he said her name.
It was overflowing with shock and massive disbelief, but the tenderness was still evident. Oh. She'd missed him so much and now.. now she didn't have to miss him any more ,yet the nights of loneliness came back in a torrent. Every day that she had longed to feel his arms around her, the touch of his skin brushing against her hands, to see that incredibly dorky yet adorable grin that sat on his face when he talked about anything really, and then he'd turn that smile to her and she'd melt and be unable to hold herself back from leaning in and oh.
She'd missed it all so much. It had been eating away at her with each passing moment, encouraging her to keep going and moving on to try and find him that much sooner. Because if she had been unable to find him again.. she didn't know how she would have been able to cope.
Adrianna opened her mouth to reply when a third party joined their little reunion. This time is was the ensign's turn to look shock. It was a young girl, she couldn't have been more than fifteen, standing beside John.
She had bright eyes, and from the first glance, Adrianna's impression was that she also had an inquisitive nature, kind eyes, a soft glow of innocence, and the passion for adventure. Which was so very much like John.
The compliment given to her almost went unheard, but after a few moments, she started to smile, a little bit of blush creeping onto her cheeks. "Thank you..." Adrianna spoke softly; she was still unused to hearing compliments like that, a life of not receiving any kind left that kind of mark.
The cold started to creep into her limbs as she turned back to the man that held her heart. "I-..." Quickly her eyes darted back and forth from the girl to John. She was scared, so much so that it was consuming, and she knew she wasn't going to get rid of this feeling so easily. How was there a young teenager in their-- his garage? She was so much like John, and that scared Adrianna more than anything.
He had moved on. She had been foolish enough to let him go, and she was foolish enough to believe that he would ever hold himself back from someone else because of what they had once had. She had wasted her time coming back, because...he had moved on? Had he? Did he? The woman was so sure of it. God did that hurt. Adrianna swallowed, the tears at first seeing him multiplying at seeing the girl, and now they were beginning to spill over her eyes and onto her cheeks. "How-..." Such a fool. An idiot, a hopeless fool... Why did you come back in the first place? Such a fool. Her voice dropped several octaves till it was nothing but a hesitant whisper. "Who...who is she?"
