John green signed my copies of Paper Towns and Looking For Alaska and then he complimented me on my pen and I told him he could have it but he said it’d be rude so he gave me $5 for it

LOOKING FOR ALASKA MOVIE? YAY OR NAY?

Not my decision.

I sold the movie rights to Paramount in 2005, when Sarah and I were moving to New York for her to go to graduate school. It was the most important money we ever made, and I can’t regret the decision, but it does mean that the movie rights—and all decisions made about the movie—will be Paramount’s forever.

So far they haven’t chosen to make a film. If and when they do, I’ll have a discussion with them about whether I should be involved and how.

I’ve been really, really lucky to be so involved with TFIOS and Paper Towns. I don’t get to make decisions—I don’t cast the movie or direct it or pick the soundtrack—but I do feel that everyone involved in those decisions listens to me and also tries to listen to nerdfighteria. But the experience I’ve had with Fox and the producers is very rare. I wish I could tell you that I feel confident a Looking for Alaska movie will happen and will be great. I hope someday I can tell you that. But today is not that day.

“What the hell is that?” I laughed. “It’s my fox hat.” “Your fox hat?” “Yeah, Pudge. My fox hat.” “Why are you wearing your fox hat?” I asked. “Because no one can catch the motherfucking fox.”

When adults say, “Teenagers think they are invincible” with that sly, stupid smile on their faces, they don’t know how right they are. We need never be hopeless, because we can never be irreparably broken. We think that we are invincible because we are. We cannot be born, and we cannot die. Like all energy, we can only change shapes and sizes and manifestations. They forget that when they get old. They get scared of losing and failing. But that part of us greater than the sum of our parts cannot begin and cannot end, and so it cannot fail.

I do not want Looking for Alaska to be a movie. But if it has to be, I think it needs to be rated R so that it can be told truthfully. It’s not a cutesy teen romance and it shouldn’t be treated like one.

It’s not because I want to make out with her.” Hold on.” He grabbed a pencil and scrawled excitedly at the paper as if he’d just made a mathematical breakthrough and then looked back up at me. “I just did some calculations, and I’ve been able to determine that you’re full of shit
