The USS Feminist Killjoy was established in 2014 as a response to the sexist, racist, and generally problematic behavior that exists in our Star Trek fandom.

It was established as a safe haven - a place for those who have been made to feel unwelcome by awful Trekkies in the galaxy. It is a place for anyone who is not a straight, cisgender, white male.

In the world of Star Trek fandom there are many starships, but none are like ours. None prioritize safety for marginalized individuals. The other starships SHOULD view our existence as a threat. Our purpose is to challenge, in a serious and real way, the misunderstanding and misuse of the ideals and philosophies that are found in Star Trek.

Women leaving other ships, feeling hesitant to participate, and feeling discouraged within this community are signs that things are not right within the world of Star Trek fandom. The fact that other marginalized Trek fans want to be welcomed into this space that they feel is safe, this should be taken as a sign that Star Trek fandom is not inclusive.

The USS Feminist Killjoy does not and will not tolerate sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic or any other kind of oppressive behavior from anyone, under any circumstances. People who condone and participate in oppressive behavior will not be welcome here.

While we do follow the traditional ship model and offer rank and teams, we are equal. If an ensign says a commodore is making them feel unsafe, there will not be a vote. There will be a conversation about safety and respect between members and captains and the sanctity of this ship will be protected. This is drastically different from how other ships are run, and we realize that, and we promise to adhere to it. Our goal is that no one will be made to feel unsafe here and if they do, action will be taken.

We are all equal here. We are all important. We deserve a space where we can feel safe. We, the captains, promise to provide that space to the best of our ability.

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the USS Feminist Killjoy. Its life-long mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.
