I love that when the US was banned from TikTok for 12 hours, people from other countries were actually getting engagement on their posts more than ever before, AND so many people were saying that their comments sections were so much nicer and more peaceful. I mean, assholes exist all over the world, but I think that it is very telling how much more peaceful things were, regardless. People were saying that they were actually experiencing calm and positive conversations in their comments.

disclaimer: I am east asian. if anyone who is not white sees anything wrong with my phrasing, inaccuracies, or insensitivity, or something I missed, please feel free to add on. I’m just one person with one perspective; none of what I say should be taken as The Singular way to draw an Asian character. if you havent done so already, please take the effort to expand your view of Asian culture outside this one tutorial.

if a white person reblogs this and adds something stupid I’m going to bite and kick you like a wild animal

I LOVE this post and wanted to add some additional info, cause I see a lot of people who assume that drawing asian hair is the same as drawing white hair. This is not the case! There’s more to it than just the color.

Image description for the original post and my addition are underneath the read more at the end.

Thank you for reading! Once again, image description for my images and OP’s images are under the cut.

Just like OP, I’m only one single person, so if anyone wants to correct me or add something I missed, then go for it. And further disclaimer, there are exceptions to everything I’ve said in this post, and it only applies to East and Southeast asian people who are either not mixed or white-mixed, as those are the hair types I’m most familiar with.

Edit: AUGH I FORGOT TO mention this but @ everyone in the comments talking about blue eyes on biracial asians, here’s another guide I made that goes over color inheritance for biracial people: https://6480n.tumblr.com/post/633074808569069568/making-this-guide-because-i-see-this-question-time

I'd like to add that a lot of this applies to Indigenous groups in North and South America too. Especially Coastal Indigenous Peoples, like my own people. We often get mistaken for being Asian, which makes sense since Indigenous people populated the Americas from Asia, particularly Northern Asia, like the Mongolian Steppes and Northern China, etc.

Reblog if you’re 30 or older

This is an experiment to see if there really are as few of us as people think. You can also use this to freak out your followers who think you’re 25 or something. Yay!

a lot of you probably knows Belphie's story, but I'll summarize just in case.

Devon Rex cats are better for people with allergies (less shed fur + less Fel d1 protein in their saliva), so on February 16, 2024, I went the breeder route and put down a deposit. before Belphie even opened his eyes, he was mine.

every Friday, the breeder sent me a new photo. I had a broken leg, and was basically rotting in bed at that point, so it was the best part of my week. then, at 12 weeks old, I BROUGHT HIM HOME!

at first, he was so alive. like a wind-up monkey that never shut off. he dangled from the wall-hangings, savaged my feet as I walked, and used my elderly cats as jumping poles to do cool acrobatics over. but all this gradually faded.

first, he stopped playing. then he stopped climbing. then he stopped moving much at all. my vet ran tests on him and found multiple pathogens (calcivrius + mycoplasma), but the medication didn't help - he kept declining.

on September 17th, I woke up to find him swollen like a balloon. we finally had an answer: he had Feline infectious Peritonitis, aka FIP. before 2017, this would've been a death sentence. he would've kept bloating until he drowned in his own fluids. and before 2024, I would've been forced to inject him with black market drugs. but thankfully, South Tower Animal Hospital in Fergus, Ontario was doing a study on the oral medication! we drove two hours, enrolled him, and left with the GS-441524 pills.

and he went from those photos above.....to this:

I thought Belphie would die as a kitten. I'd accepted that he would never grow up. but now he gets to LIVE!

and all for the low cost of $7,553.....ahhhahaha........god.

that + a recent home disaster has wiped out my savings, but I still need to pay for Belphie's medication. to remain in this study, I need to do bloodwork monthly until Feb 2025, and he'll need daily pills until March 2025.

I've put a risograph print + enamel pin set up at greerstothers.shop. I hate asking for help, but if you'd like to support Belphie's continued treatment, please consider checking them out!

phrasing of this is taking me out

Harder to crucify a being with eight legs

I am not sure about Tarantulas yet, but I have a Scorpion that reproduces vis parthenogenesis, meaning that all the members of that species are female, and reproduce asexually. She also happen tos be one of the most venomous species of scorpion (Brazilian Yellow Scorpion or Tityus Stigmurus. I have 9 of Tarantulas, but none of them reproduce parthenogenically as far as I know. However, like most egg laying animals, I do now that they will still sometimes produce unfertilized eggs!

Please don't crucify spider Jesus though! That's the only Jesus I would put my faith into LOL

Wildwood Tarot: Wherein wisdom resides

To walk among the age-old trees of the wildwood is to journey back in time, to a place of great simplicity and deep understanding. In this re-awakening of the original Greenwood Tarot, Mark Ryan and John Matthews introduce us to the classic forest archetypes of the Green Man and Woman, the Archer, the Hooded Man and the Blasted Oak. Will Worthington's rich and vivid images bring this ancient world to life and make it possible to feel the magic and power of the wildwood.

The Wildwood Tarot draws inspiration from pre-Celtic mythology and a belief system steeped in shamanic wisdom and forest lore. Based on the seasonal rhythm and festivals of the ancient year, it connects us with a long-lost world – one that can help us to make sense of our own.

And there are so many reasons a kid might be quiet. I was quiet because I felt safer when I was quiet. Because I WAS BEING ABUSED. And I had to go through even more abuse at school because the teachers there wouldn't lift a finger to stop it.

Flashback to the time my science teacher said, "If you don't want to be bullied, don't make yourself a target."

Throwback to when my teacher said to me that i "basically chose to be bullied"💀

Do you know what the only thing that stopped the kids who bullied me when I was being bullied so badly I came home crying daily my entire fifth grade?

It wasn’t any of my mom’s suggestions, which were go to the teacher, go to the principal, just keep going to an adult because *surely* that will *eventually* help even though obviously it wasn’t and my life was turning into a living hell in the meantime while the authorities she put all her faith in did nothing and she didn’t lift a finger because she thought I needed to handle it on my own to learn *responsibility*. The teachers said either what this post did, or to just ignore them. Obviously none of that worked.

You know what did work?

One week when my mom was out of town, my dad was waiting by the bus stop for me. He drove his car over to some of the kids who had been picking on me, and scared the living daylight out of them by rolling down the window and asking them “so you think it’s funny to make little girls cry?” He didn’t *do* anything to them. Just scared the little shitheads so badly they hopefully never bullied anyone else ever again because they realized there would be fucking consequences.

My best friend and I didn’t have a single other issue the rest of the year. From anyone who had bullied us, not just that particular group. For the rest of the year we were left completely alone by people who had up until then tormented us every time the adults’ backs were turned.

So there you have it. Actual consequences and the fear of god (or a very angry father) are the only things that will stop bullies. Not ignoring them. And certainly not stoking their wrath more and then turning your back on them in the hopes they’ll go ‘pick on someone else’.

One thing I will always be grateful for is my Grade 8 Science Teacher ... because a boy in my class who picked on me often, was doing just that, and I finally got fed up, walked over to his table and bhind him with my binder and nailed him over the head with said binder. Now, violence isn't always the answer, but sometimes it's the only thing that works. Anyway, my science teacher was out of the room and came back just as I ran out to go cry in the girl's washroom ... he sent my friend to check on me, and sent my bully to the office for being a little shit. I was excused from the rest of class and he told me it was okay and that I did what I felt I had to, especially after I explained, in tears, that this boy and his friends were always picking on me. So thank you Mr. Gammell for being one of the only teachers who actually tried to be sympathetic to my situation ... It wasn't thee best situation, but I think he knew that sometimes we just have to take the lead and solve our problems in ... unconventional ways.
