The latest in our #SuperPaintingBros series…

Title: ‘5th Dimensional Watermelon’

Drawn by Joshua (preemptivefear) this piece presented something of a challenge when I first started to colour it. Initially entitled ‘5th Dimension’ and consisting only of the abstract shapes seen here, I decided to choose just two colours and work exclusively with those in various ways. A couple of small parts of the line work contain dots and made me think of watermelon seeds; so I chose red and green and decided to rename the piece (after conferring with Joshua on the matter). It worked out in the end I’m relatively happy with the outcome, although I would’ve preferred the overall colour scheme to be a little more vibrant; but alas, this is but a small part of this, much larger, project, so I don’t mind a little stumble here and there. - Alex (theartofalexc)

Finished colouring another one of Josh’s (preemptivefear) #SuperPaintingBros drawings.

Title: ‘3000 x Zoom’

I love these things that he does, they remind me of traditional African art or rugs or something. I think we should do some of these on a much larger scale, personally. Who’d be interested in something like this as a large-scale print? - Alex (theartofalexc)

The latest submission to our new project, the #SuperSelfPortraitProject (more info here) comes from our very own Joshua Ashton.

Joshua is currently studying graphic design at the Hull School of Art and Design, his various work can be found at the following links: Tumblr art blog Twitter Instagram

And here’s a little bit more about him: • Name: Joshua Ashton • Age: 21 • Gender: Male • Hometown: Hull, East Yorkshire, England • Mediums used in self portrait: Pen and watercolour paints. • Date: 04/06/2014 • Creative fields: Graphic design, photography, illustration, graffiti and trying to write. • Creative motivations: The freedom to express myself creatively through any way I want, while constantly pushing myself in as many different ways as possible. I enjoy reading into why myself and other people have used and done certain things. Almost like creating narratives for every thing. • Biggest influence & why?: Wes Anderson, because he has a visual style that is fantastic. Abstract expressionism, cubism, surrealism and impressionism because of the amount of emotion that goes into the work, along with the weirdness that comes with every piece and how much it pushes boundaries in culture.

I am quite proud how this came out, I wanted too make it as accurate as possible, people know me as that miserable bastard in the bucket hat and crazy shirts.
