This is how cartographers in Venice must feel. The dread of failing to record the capillary crossing your forehead. You are still asleep, heedless of the tide swaying the bedsheets and dragging your shoes to the door. I think of how you dance all elbows and knees, spiking the ecstatic air. My fingers trace the invisible architecture of your spine, its sinking and rising. This city is built on glass. We are at the mercy of the moon, you, Venice, and I, counting on currents to shatter us gently. I hold your hand. I count your knuckles and watch the tide come in.

“Cartography,” n.c.g.

What makes a modern Disney Princess? Oh gosh! I think a modern day Disney princess still has to have the grace and the kindness to her that all the princesses have had. But I feel like the modern day one is more independent and is more strong and is able to make choices on her own instead of just [leaving it to] fate. Today’s princess has a little bit more forward motion and drive to her.

[On his first time feeling represented in pop culture] It’s so scarce, as a kid, that like the examples are insane. Like I’m thinking of the chihuahua in Oliver & Company, voiced by Cheech Marin. I was like, “Oh, that guy sounds like my uncle. That chihuahua, that’s us!” That’s how bad the ‘80s were when it comes to Latinos. I’m trying to think what else, but literally the first thing that came to mind was a fucking cartoon chihuahua.
