Romantic Illustrated Journal Pages by Lily Seika Jones

Seattle-based illustrator Lily Seika Jones composes stunning and charming illustrations, reminiscent of vintage anatomy and botanical illustrations. Starring nature, woodland animals, and mythological creatures, Jones’ pieces reflect an idyllic and romantic quality. The dreamy illustrations are studies of some of our favourite beasts, which often appear in fairy tales a human’s friend or foe in a time of crisis. The artist’s style is sophisticated and appears antiquated; we are instantly filled with nostalgia. Each drawing seems to be plucked out of a scientific or fairy tale book years ago. Get them here!

This faint conviction to which I cling Is not strong enough a precipice. It crumbles under my weight Sending pieces of me tumbling Crashing onto jagged rocks below To fly apart and lie bleeding there With not enough of me left To rescue them and stem the flow. Vestiges of hope and love mingle On the sharp edges as dark red stains beneath my conviction, under the precipice.

Still bleeding, in pieces held together with ragged but strong fibres of love and hope for what might have been, what could be, and what will never be.

Strange creatures us humans.

Don't Know You

I saw you today.

But I don’t know you.

Strangers in busy traffic

Both negotiating grey streets

And cars, going about their busy-ness.

My rear vision mirror

Filled with your tears

That anguish

I would recognise anywhere.

But I don’t know you.

Beautiful boy with tears

Wiped angrily with the heel of your hand.

As if that action could make it better,

Make it unseen, hide your pain.

Your pain, my pain.

I wanted to press comfort close to you,

Hug a random stranger today.

Pain that big should be shared.

I saw you today.

But I can’t know you.
