Halna, howl of the Tatras

Some ‘15 odds and ends from my side/pet project, Slava.

Amazing, just as dynamic as I’d imagine! Thank you @kot-z-cheshire for letting me know about these wonderful artworks ♥

(in case someone’s interested, I made once a post explaining what the halny wind is)

And I just realised that @sticksandsharks is the artist who once posted two interesting sets with backgrounds and giffed animations from an unfinished game project featuring Slavic folklore and mythology, make sure to check them here.

‘Rusałka’ by Polish artist Karol Bąk (b.1961).

Rusałka is a water spirit from Slavic mythology. Originally, the rusałki were nurturing spirits, fetrilizing the fields and thus helping to ensure good crops. They could’ve been dangerous if offended or enraged. The spirits were demonized in the rural culture over time, and already around the 19th century they were regarded to as unclean, vile beings, luring young people into deep waters.

Intricate mixed-media artworks by Natalia Pas. She creates vibrant scenes inspired by the Polish foklore: paints her own acrylic backgrounds showing various rural landscapes, then decorates them with hand-embroidered Łowicz patterns (floral pattern style from central Poland) and natural elements like dried flowers and leaves.
