Three Year Work'aversary

Three years ago, on June 15, 2015, was my first day of work as a physical therapist. Three years seems like a significant anniversary because it means I’ve now been a PT for as long as I was in PT school.
In some ways, it feels like I’ve been a PT forever, and in others, I can’t believe three years have passed so quickly. Similarly, while I realize how much I have learned and grown as a therapist…

A few months ago, I was asked by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), if I would like to be featured in an article for Perspectives Magazine about physical therapists who have had major career changes. Perspectives is the APTA’s publication for PT’s and PTA’s in the first five years of their career. Today, the magazine came in the mail, and I get to share my story of how I transitioned from journalism to physical therapy!

Find the article here (page 6).

7th Blog’aversary

Today is the seventh anniversary of starting my PT blog! The blog began on Tumblr during my first year after graduating with my undergraduate degree when I was living in Israel. It was a way for me to bridge the gap between the journalism/writing career I was in to the physical therapy career I was starting. I’m proud that I’ve been able to write and blog pretty consistently over the past seven…

Multiple PT School Acceptances While getting into PT school is a truly wonderful experience, a stressful situation can arise if you receive multiple acceptances with short deadlines on putting down deposits. APTA Article Mentions

At the end of 2017, two of my media appearances were cited by the APTA: My article with PT School Interview Tips was included in the Most Read Blog Posts for the Pulse Blog in 2017. My expert quotes about squatting for Mother Nature Network was included in PT in Motion’s The Good Stuff, a weekly round-up of news. Here’s to another year of great writing, quoting, and APTA membership!

I never posted on my blog about the social media takeover I did in the fall for New Grad Physical Therapy, so I thought I’d share my posts here. The takeover led to me creating an Instagram account for myself, taking over the social media at my job, and most recently, to me creating a PT-focused Pinterest. If you’re not already following me, start now!

I love how a previous patient decorated the cane she needed to use temporarily for the holidays to make using it more enjoyable!

Do you ever struggle to get your patients to use the appropriate assistive device?

I discuss the right way to help encourage someone to use a cane or walker on Caring.com.

A few months ago, I was fortunate to be able to interview Dr. Desi Williams, the physical therapist competing on this season of Survivor. She certainly has made the profession proud and I hope to see her on TV again in the near future.
