THATS MADE ME CRY EVEN MORE

Pikeposting

rewatched aos a few days ago and realized all over again how much I love Pike, no shade to TOS Pike, but there's something so wonderful about Bruce Greenwood's version and I refuse to accept his ending in STID

STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES season one | episode twenty-four ⇢ this side of paradise I am what I am, Leila, and if there are self-made purgatories, then we all have to live in them. Mine can be no worse than someone else's.

the soft look on spock's face when jim defends him against bigotry has bewitched me. look at this. can anyone hear me

STILES: They'll be back. Not just one ship but with everything they've got. You know that, Mister Science Officer. You're the expert on these people. Always left out that one point. Why? I'm very interested in why. KIRK: Sit down, Mister.
KIRK: Well, here's one thing you can be sure of, Mister. Leave any bigotry in your quarters. There's no room for it on the Bridge. Do I make myself clear?

these moments are some of the most vulnerable we ever see him and they are so explicitly framed as "when nobody's watching" shots (even though there are people in the room). spock feeling pure awe at his friend's loyalty to him. I AM YELLING

star trek used to be about gays in space

now they just make Spock kiss women

i think they’re missing the point of why spock became a sensation after tos was aired. it was his alieness, his aloof demeanor and indifference to sex and emotions that made him so appealing. he wasn’t like a typical red-blooded human male, he had restraint and discipline due to his vulcan heritage. emotions were taboo to him and if tos wrote him constantly banging and wooing women it wouldn’t of worked. it wasn’t even about sex with spirk. people shipped spock and kirk because spock constantly went against his vulcan programming for kirk. people prefer yearning and acts of love, not overt hetero behavior when it comes to spock. if you write spock as a womanizer, well, that’s not spock, is it?

personally i like it when star trek villains make spock do something objectively pretty or emotional, and human witnesses are finally sympathizing with him like Wow Spock Who Knew You Had It In You and then the camera cuts to james t kirk frothing at the mouth lunging for any weapon in reach like HE DOESNT WANT TO BE DOING THAT RELEASE HIM AT ONCEEEEE

Jim loved him for who he was and what he wanted to be
