Umm so since I’m stupid could someone kindly explain each step for me like step 3 am i head butting him in the face or the chest? 

I think it depends on the height of the person, but I suppose the head is a more effective target. I hope this helps :)

Step 1: Step back the moment he reaches for you.

Step 2: Duck!

Step 3: Head butt him in the chin. It’s very important that it is the chin and not the chest because it is much more uncomfortable and disorienting to have your teeth bang together especially if it cuts his tongue (which it will if it is in the way). More than likely height won’t matter. He will be leaning forward from the missed attempt at grabbing you.

Step 4: Knee him in the balls.

Step 5: When he doubles over, jab him on his back. I believe at the base of the neck just above the shoulder blades would be best. I’m not an expert, but this seems like the best place, imo.

Step 6: Don’t lose contact. Bring your other hand over and slam your hands against the sides of his heads as hard as possible. Right on the ears is the best place; it is extremely disorienting if done correctly. Then take his head and bring it down on your knee as you bring your knee up. It’s very important that you avoid the nose because if you knee his nose it will definitely break and more than likely the bones will stab his brain killing him, so aim for his mouth instead.

Step 7: Keep your knee up and bring your foot out to kick him over. Personally, I don’t like the image because it looks like she kicked him with her toes. You do not want to do that. Instead kick him with the ball or heel of your foot and put power behind it with a push.

Step 8: He is on the ground. You could probably stop here and he would get the picture, but if you really want to…Your leg is still in the air from the kick. With all your force slam the edge of your your heel on his side. It will be more effective if you lower your body first by bending at the knee of the leg your weight is on. Done right, you can break a rib or two.

Why is everyone so mean to Astrid?

This came to my attention while reading HTTYD fan fiction with a non-canon pairing. ALWAYS, without fail, the author makes Astrid this she-bitch that’s super cruel.

I have NEVER gotten that vibe from her. Yes, Astrid can be a bit…much in the first movie, but in case you never noticed, she never teased Hiccup. Ever. She only got super annoyed at him.

Astrid is just a strong, independent woman who doesn’t take shit from anybody if she can help it. And suddenly people translate this ‘strength’ to ‘cruelty’ and 'bitterness’?

That is fucked up. I love Astrid and everything she stands for. More people need to appreciate her for who she is. She’s an integral part of the gang, just as the rest are.

I believe this has become an epidemic in the HTTYD community. People should really stop hating on her. There should be a call to arms about this issue, and I believe more people should address it. It’s high time Astrid got cut some slack. Come on guys, its been more than five years. She deserves better than this.

Oh kiddo, it is both better and worse than it used to be. Better in the sense that the whole series has been so analyzed that the devilish details of both movies/all shorts have been worked through, and worse in the sense that the clutter-sludge that fills 90% of fanworks (there’s some trope name for it, right?) has grown.

Why it happens is in part to the same epidemic that runs through every fan-community in regards to lady-love-interests, and in part to the writing itself, which hadn’t done Astrid any favors by reducing her character to a protag-supporter that over-rode the great character they created. (So… calling her “strong independent” almost goes against canon but also goes with it… yeah, canon kinda messed that up… but still stuck with it? It’s complicated).

But also know that not everyone is mean to Astrid. In fact, in the right circles you’d almost feel more sorry for how Hiccup is bastardized/twisted over how she is, and that most big blogs on this website are in favor of her.

But seriously, if you’re seeing an epidemic you just haven’t learned to block the few nasty blogs that have proven themselves little better than trolls. We’re (a healthy chunk of the fandom) are happy to discuss Astrid’s strengths and weaknesses as both a character and a ‘person’ without turning into a complete asshat.

… I could also go on a whole tangent about why you see Astrid hate in non-canon pairings (meaning Hiccup’s the alter pairing and not Astrid) and how it’s both the fault of the writers and the fandom. Parts of it, that is.
