Kylo watched as Luke came to him without a moment’s hesitation. He wondered if it was guilt that blinded him from caution, or simply a protective instinct for the one he had taken under his wing. Either way, it twisted Ren’s lips into a snarl. He turned a hard glare onto his uncle as he spoke, giving a snort of derision.

“I’m not a slave to them, as you’d like to believe, Skywalker. I’m much freer to do my own bidding, than I was under your watchful eye.” Kylo never looked away, fixing Luke with his stare. Under your watchful eye, well…you know what happened. You remember, don’t you, Uncle? But he didn’t say the words, not ready to go down that path just yet.
“Now now, don’t try to change the subject. You know why I’m here,       who I’m looking for. You know that I’ll find her one way or another.”

“...You’re wrong.” He could feel the hatred in this one’s heart, and that only made his all the more heavier. There was just too much that had happened, and in such a short span of time, all those years ago, did everything he had been working on back then just evaporated. All over a simple mistake, and one he had paid for in the many years after. Now, he was looking at a shell of what he had known, and how reflective was this imagery. It was that destructive path he had once treaded, and resisted as well as he could. Shakes his head, trying to make this light again, and he knew the time for that was dwindling further and further. There was simply too much weight in the other’s words, and too much pain that was clearly being hidden. “You know she doesn’t really need my help, or yours. Though, this can’t really be about just her. You’ve come to kill me, haven’t you. I always expected that to come about in a setting that’s a little more... uh... dramatic? Not some deadbeat cantina, if I’m being honest.” | @destruxi |

The old man had gotten good at hiding, but circumstances change. Taking on a new apprentice had forced Luke to leave his cloak of comfort and venture into the world once more. Yet Kylo was not here for him, he was here for the girl. Luke was just the connection that he needed to get to her. He was also the very thing purposefully keeping them apart.
Ren would not chase. He muttered an order to his waitress, motioning towards the cloaked old man. Soon, a flagon of some sort of ale was brought to Luke, ‘from your friend’ the woman said, gesturing towards Kylo’s table. He only stared with the eyes of a wolf, hungry, waiting.

Luke saw the individual looking his way, and it was the source of this bitter cold that invaded his senses. It felt just like a certain figure of his youth, and the memory of those enhanced echoing breaths still haunted the back of his thoughts. The drink that was given to him, signalling that his attention was needed by the other, and was brought along as he went over to the very table he should avoid.  Looks onto his nephew with a solemn expression, and wonders how to break this deadly silence. Takes a sip of the brew, and just leaning forward slightly. “So... What a wild place this is, right? Kinda strange the Order would let you go way out of their jurisdiction? Out of Snoke’s watchful eye.” | @destruxi |

The tavern he had settled in on was just the perfect spot to blend in and not really be noticed by anyone, since all sorts of individuals came to these places. It was also a wonderful location to get something decent to drink, while he waited for his apprentice to make contact. Luke was confident she’d do all the tasks he set out for her, and then some. It’s just her way...  The feelings he’d sense whenever they’d talk to each other, after a long day’s training, or just in general were of the girl’s confusion. He knew well enough of what she was going through, but perhaps this was different than what he’s experienced. Though any other musings were put on hold, he felt something cold running familiarly down his spine. Downs the rest of his drink, and tips the bartender something good, before taking a look around this seedy area. | @destruxi |

“Han! You almost gave me quite the fright back there, jeez!     I didn’t think you’d come all the way out here. A little warning, next time??     So, I can at least get you and Chewie a proper room.” | @smcggler |

He never thought to find Skywalker so truly devoid of hope in the very cause he had championed throughout his youth. Kylo wasn’t sure how to feel now, honestly. After all, isn’t this what he should have wanted? For Luke to renounce his old ways and finally follow his father’s lost legacy? Yet there was anger beneath it all, for why couldn’t he have come to this conclusion sooner, and saved so much bloodshed? Not to mention suspicion, at such a quick change of heart.

“Really, is it so simple, Uncle? You spend years training pupils in the way of the light. Now you want to…’sample’ the dark side? It is not a path to be taken lightly, you of all people know that well. So tell me, why should I even trust your words? It’s very possible that this is some Resistance plot to get you aboard a First Order ship.”
Even as he said the words, Kylo found it unlikely. Skywalker had isolated himself entirely, from everyone and everything. That included the galaxy’s conflicts. Ren doubted he would be so easily pulled back into such matters, even considering his loyalties to old friends.
“It sounds like you’ve given this some thought, and yet you know how drastic it sounds. Tell me, why didn’t you come to us then, if you felt this way?” He spoke through gritted teeth, surprised at the bile rising fast to his tongue. “Why would you put everyone through years of wondering, of anguish, only to turn to me at the last moment? Perhaps you’re more selfish than I ever realized.”
[ @neverjoinyou ]

The old man shook his head solemnly, and there was the brief bit of grief showing on his creased face. So much had been built up over the years, but nothing stung as great as the harsh words of someone in his family. Here was this younger member of his family, someone he had treasured deeply with care, saying such venom-slung words that were cutting deeper than any saber.   “No... I should have listened to you, all those years ago. I should have changed how    I was teaching the rest of you, before they were killed for my ways of teaching in the Light.    I saw only one side, not the other. I should have seen how much it was killing you inside.    It’s no wonder you would go listening to another powerful being, like Snoke. It’s no wonder    you’ve wanted to see me dead all this time, and I fully accept that.”

Image

“Why would I come to my senses so quickly, after everything I thought was     right - was wrong? Changes do not happen so fast, anyone could tell you that.     I was so sure that I had done everything I could, Kylo... I see now I was wrong.     You wouldn’t want a broken man at your feet, asking to join, would you?     I doubt Snoke would. No, I’m accepting in myself what I should have back     when I fought your grandfather. When his neck was at the edge of my blade,     and there was that want to kill him, but I stayed my hand. I showed forgiveness     when I should have murdered the one who ruined so much of my life. He was     going to take your mother, kill all of my friends, and if any of that was going to     happen; It should have been done by my own hands, not my father’s.     Not the Emperor’s, either, for that matter... Why would you think trying     to find myself as something as selfish, when it was merely waiting to     come about. I was caging this away, out of fear. Surely, you understand that.     No, I know you do.”   Rey... Why do you come to me, now. I’m no good for       this... for what you want. I’m not that man of your dreams.       I cannot be the hero the rest of you see. He recalled his words to her, ones that had immediately turned her away from him with disgust. She had ran, not fled under his command, but he didn’t need to say that for anyone to get. It was as clear as day that he wasn’t the same man from thirty years ago.  | @destruxi |

Yes, he was still a fool. He must have been, to be making light of such a meeting. For as long as Kylo could remember, he had always felt a reunion with Luke was inevitable. That once more, student and teacher would meet…only this time, those old roles would be cast aside along with so much else. Names, feelings, circumstances; nothing was the same between them. Only blood remained, and it would spill tonight when Kylo severed his last link to a past that dogged his every step.
Yet, he hesitated as Luke did. Everything about the Jedi’s reaction was so vastly different from what the Knight had expected. Where he had anticipated anger, there was resignation, and beneath a calm veneer lurked some deep melancholy that went beyond their own relationship.
“What is it, Skywalker? I didn’t come to listen to the laments of the       dying. You should already be dead, along with that failure you call       my father. Yet here you stand, so speak.”
He spoke as he would to a stormtrooper, barking orders to be followed unflinchingly. Of course, his uncle might not prove to be so compliant. Still, Kylo had a feeling that he had something up his sleeve. A trick, a plea, a bargain…whatever it was, he would listen solely to make sure that all loose ends truly ended with Luke. That no last vestiges of the old Order remained to later rise against the Supreme Leader.
[ @neverjoinyou ]

Finally, he lowered his dark brown hood and stared right at the maskless one with his weary gaze. The older man was clearly showing a bit of disdain for what he had truly made, and to have it show up years later; his mistake. It was like a slap in the face only now making the impact. Though, he couldn’t put any blame on the younger one, no... This was his fault for his failure in teaching the right way, for he was no Yoda. What he had thought was wise, only proved to be so very wrong. Not even outside forces could have stopped what I couldn’t see. Snoke perhaps had a point...

Image

“Dead is where I should be, but it seems that’s too difficult to come by for      an old man like me. How cruel of you to bring up your father in such a way,      but I supposed I’ve been away for so long... Maybe he was not the man I      thought I knew? Who knows... The past is behind, as are my ideals.” He knew this was going to be felt across the stars, but what he couldn’t keep back any longer he had to do this. Stares at the other with such a stern gaze, and once he was close enough to feel the wind blowing those darkened tatters of robes his way, did he finally pause.      “Perhaps, the Light Side is the wrong path... After all these years of hiding,       of trying to ignore the horror committed on that evening... I think I can see it       clearly, now. On why you did what you did, Kylo. Too much light isn’t ever good,       as is too much dark, but maybe I need to see what it’s all about? Only a taste       was all I’ve ever had, but to see what it’s done to you... What I’m saying is, if       you’ll allow it, I should discard the Light and join you and your Supreme Leader.       No, it’s not some trick, by the way if you were wondering... I have no use for       such things, anymore. If you disagree, and should still wish to see me dead by       your hands... then so be it. I’d rather it be by yours, than by someone who isn’t of blood.” | @destruxi |

He hadn’t come alone, but to Kylo there was no one else truly present. Everyone else was a machine, simply fulfilling their appointed tasks, keeping things around him running smoothly. To Kylo, they did not exist right now. Only his thoughts were real; those of a single man, one he had not seen in a very long time and yet the faintest image of him was enough to set his pulse to pounding once more. Is he still the weak fool I left behind? He wondered. Yet a small voice in the back of his mind wondered if his uncle thought the very same of him.

They landed precisely at nightfall, when it had grown dark enough for the beams of his shuttle to violently pierce the still shores. Once the ramp lowered, his imposing figure waltzed down it and he was greeted by sharp gusts of wind that tugged his robes to and fro. It was much darker than the base he was accustomed to, but he did not need to see clearly, only to feel, and Luke was not masking his presence in the slightest.
Signaling for the others to stay with the shuttle (and they wouldn’t dare set foot off of it no matter what, he had made that abundantly clear), Kylo set off towards to rocky cliffs. It was a tiresome trek, enough so to have him cursing the old Jedi’s games once more. Is this some sort of trial to his aged mind, or simply a diversion to lower my defenses? Pathetic, either way. Under the cold light of the moon, Kylo trudged on, feeling the weight of every memory he had kept suppressed for so long. Rebukes drawled into lectures, laughter and tears became one, and through the muddy surface of his recollections Kylo only saw the face of a liar, a man who had no right to breathe another breath. The knight could see him in the distance now, his robed silhouette standing starkly against the white of the moon.
     “You couldn’t hide forever.”
No longer was his voice twisted by his gruesome mask, and malice rang loud and clear in his words. What wasn’t said didn’t need to be voiced:       There is no hope for you now.              This is the end.
[ @neverjoinyou ]

Luke had waited patiently for this one to return, and he knew it was pointless to try and hide his presence even now. There wasn’t any reason to turn away from this, anymore, and he owed it to so many that this be the right way to deal with the issues he had placed on himself. Once he saw the maskless one, inside his mind went at a standstill for a few moments, because it was the face of what he had remembered... Except cold. No longer was the boy inside of him, and the darkness had truly washed out any trace of whatever good had been there. It was like night and day to see the change perfectly mirrored through the addition of a scar, and those dark eyes reflected back rage. Except Luke couldn’t let himself feel anything for this situation, neither pain nor regret, because it had been his fault it came to this. Stands a little straighter, even though his back felt just as tired as his mind had been, and his voice finally breaks through the silence he had kept for this long.    “Well, of course I couldn’t... You’d have caught up to me by the time I’d get     to the bottom of the cliff, at this point. I see you’ve grown quite strong, hrm...     What is it they’re calling you, now.. What did she say?... Oh! Kylo Ren...     You know it’s interesting, really, that you’d give yourself a new name after turning.     Was it to hide some part of yourself, as well? I’m surprised that I’ve never thought     of that for myself.”

Image

“So... are you here to kill me? I’m sure you want to. You’ve already gotten to       have a hand in killing your father, quite personally... I bet you’d like to do the       same to me, and I can’t blame you, Kylo Ren. Though... hm.......” His thoughts were trying to come together swiftly enough, but still he was having some semblance of hesitation... But for what, he didn’t know just yet. | @destruxi |

It was never going to be like this forever, and it was a test of time to see he had gone on this long. The older one knew it in his heart that old memories and harmful pasts were always to come back in some form or fashion. Once he had ran as far as he could, away from his problems and prideful woes, the old Jedi was just that; old. He had grown tired of fighting, of trying to save the galaxy from terrors that would never end. What had been troubling for the later part of his life, though, was one terror he had brought into existence... Which was someone of blood, and he had been the one to pay the fullest price for his failure.   Many were killed because of me, and I cannot run any longer. Thoughts were put on a standstill as he turned to face what was to come, and even though he had sent his last away; on some journey for her to explore most likely. His time had come, and Luke Skywalker would face off against the storm he had brought to shore. Bright lights of what was definitely a high-class cruiser, and a shuttle accompanied by many others, he knew it was his last evening. Though, a hardened expression was what he wore, for he had to be strong even now through all of this cowardice as what might it seem to be. For my sister do I now come back, but what she may not agree with is what must be so. I’m sorry, Leia... -- H a n ... Turns away from the oceanic view of his islands’ cliffs, and waits for the shadow to show itself first, patiently. | @destruxi |
