Grell shifted on her feet, suddenly feeling sick to her stomach. William, with his combed hair and meticulous nature, was blocking the street, leaving her trapped in this dirty alley.
She clenched her fists and looked away. She didn’t want to lash out at him but it was difficult to contain years’ worth of emotion especially when he was acting so calm and collected and she was trapped in this goddamn corner and he probably thought she had always been a mess and would continue to be a mess he had to clean up for the sake of business.
“No time for pleasantries?!”
“It’s been a fucking year! Don’t you have anything else to say?”
She didn’t know what she was expecting, insults maybe? Words of pity or regret? Anything, she thought, anything as long as he gave her something!
There it was again. The defeat... William’s eyes narrowed as he watched Grell shift and look away. It was peculiar to see her this way, without the fire, without the aggression -
However in a second she had turned back towards him, voice rough and words scathing in their selfishness, starting a sudden anger in William.
How dare she?! She had been the one self destructing, refusing his help, tormenting and hurting everybody around her. And now after a year of his absence, she had to audacity to demand his attention?! Slowly a cold but familiar detachment settled over William, his eyes hardening.
“I said everything I had to say, as you have put it so eloquently, a fucking year ago, Sutcliff.”
His phone chimed, diverting his attention. However after briefly glancing at the affirmative text message from Ronald, William had once again turned towards her. “Don’t take this as a permanent deal. I’m here because Knox asked for my help and you would be wise to take a helping hand.”
“And now, if you are done with your pointless tantrum, where is your ride?”
