supernatural’s queerbaiting game is so strong they tricked people who stopped watching 7 years ago into tuning in just to see tv’s original bisexual get hate crimed by a bunch of clowns and tetanus

i hate that this isn’t even a “the show went on for so long it just had to end badly right??” scenario that some people less familiar with the show are suggesting. nah.

they had their perfect finale set up. all these latest seasons. they foreshadowed it, It was right there. even if they didn’t plan or do it intentionally (because now i know the writers never had any plan or common sense for that matter)- it was there. they had apparently broken the brothers’ codependency seasons prior. they had Cas reveal his love for Dean. they brought Eileen back and had her be with sam. They killed the author. Dean and Sam, together but finally free from the ties their story had over them, ride to… reunite with the family they formed along the way, and to live out the happy lives they always hinted at wanting, of course. i mean, what else??

but before, gotta bring Cas back, right?? the exact details as to how don’t matter. they brought him back so many times, in so many different ways already. whatever could work at this point. so you come up with whatever –Jack’s help, stolen grace, the fucking power of love, literally whatever– and that’s your plot for the ep, right?? after he is back, Dean is able to say he loves him too, thus reverting the whole ‘he is homophobic’ and 'bury your gays’ mess from before, maybe even the accusations of decades long queerbaiting because “we will never know if they planned it all from the beginning, right??” anyways, you give closure to their history together, making fans happy and having it trend because you just know they will let the world know it happened and you know people will go “did supernatural really do that??” and you maybe even gain new fans for the show with that one single 10-second scene in the final episode of a 15 year old show, an absolute feat!! because oh, you know, actual representation is where its at these days and the decade long fans will be content with crumbs at this point so. whatever if some fans are pissed! its the finale and they can go watch something else happily now!

moving on. dean and cas either carry on with the hunting life together, or retire and open a bar, a diner idc, maybe cas is human maybe not, maybe they become hunter consultants in a bobby-esque fashion?? while Sam, who always wished for something 'normal’, more domestic, marries Eileen (hey, more representation!) gets a dog (we don’t need to see them grow old, come on) and they, together, carry on with the men of letters legacy. or get into law school together idk??? the details dont matter!! you just let them be free. you let them be together. you let them live. you let them love. you let us know that you actually cared about these characters as much as we did the whole time by showing us that they went on to have long, fulfilling lives. without showing us their deaths.

because oh, we know they will die eventually, yes. but we don’t need more death right now!! you just need to let them carry on!! without them ignoring their past, nor their progress nor, like, literally everyone else they considered to be their family along the way. the original message of the show still holds, even more powerful now, even stronger: family dont end in blood. because you can find your family. and fight for them. love them. grow old with them. you can defy all odds and come out victorious on the other side, because of and for that love. and that’s your ending. roll credits and everyone’s happy!!
