"being queer is about love" hmm actually being queer is about defying societal norms about gender and sexuality and does not depend on feeling love at all

throwback to when I tried to explain how incredibly important wording is in law and legalese. trans men should have access to abortion, paternity leave, healthcare etc. if legal documentation says "women/females" now have access to this or that, then that means legally, trans men, especially those who have changed their gender marker to "male," are not included when they should be.

it's that simple. that's why wording like "those who menstruate / those who give birth / those who have this anatomy" is necessary.

"little things" like gynecologists thinking there's been a mistake or a prank call and cancelling appointments with trans men because the ID system shows them as "male" with a "traditionally male" name also stem from this. and actually that's NOT a little thing, that's fucked! that's being barred from healthcare because doctors don't know or believe you exist? erasure and invisibility of trans men is a problem, not a convenience.

that's exactly what happened in France. @luckynein

the right to abortion has been enshrined in the Constitution, recently which is supposed to be good news, but the law is poorly written. the text is about 'liberty' for 'women' to have an abortion. so, no responsibility of the state if abortion is not effectively accessible (e.g. one can refuse to perform an abortion by invoking the conscience clause of the Veil law guaranteed by freedom of conscience) and the non-inclusive wording can lead to legal limbo if you're a trans or non-binary person who changed their gender legally.

as soon as the bill was introduced by Senator Mélanie Vogel, the anti-trans activists Dora Moutot and Marguerite Stern lobbied then MP and now minister Aurore Bergé who came up with the non-inclusive wording.

Merci @auroreberge de nous avoir reçu avec @doramoutot. Merci pour votre écoute attentive et votre compréhension. Très sincèrement. pic.twitter.com/U6t9exLDva

that's why this 'historical victory' feels bittersweet. the French Left (from The Ecologists (cf Mélanie Vogel) to La France Insoumise (cf Mathilde Panot)) has abandoned trans people in the name of 'compromise' and all the cis leftists were partying without us between the 4th and the 8th of March 2024.

I love the prose and verbage of this post. The first line is almost iambic, gives it rhythm. Word choices like "really odd women" and "seems to have access to" frames the speaker as an outside observer, and establishes a tone of playful curiosity.

The lack of punctuation says casual, but the overall flow hints at poetry. We get a fun little half-serious observation about family guy, and then the author caps it off with a word like "minxy." What a choice. Delightfully anachronistic, yet nails of the particular air of disheveled blase glamour evoked by these screenshots.

CT, i love you, i defend and support you, you are my friend forever and you made a turkish dish for me while i was high. but i think i understand why people want to kill you. it’s the jock response. everything you’re saying here is authentic and sincere but that makes me uncomfortable and i am going to shove you in a locker overnight. i hope that’s okay with you

I know my role as the comically arrogant twink heel, and wear it with pride befitting an artist of my station. Still friends, darling?

no. i was gonna say yes but then you had to pull out the. italics. you talk like a michelin star restaurant reviewer and a warhammer redditor had a child and left it in the woods to be raised by people who say “Oh my Gods!!”

Such a quiet and gentle experience for a megafauna cryptid that can headbutt a speeding truck and walk away It’s like seeing Godzilla in a kiddie pool

During a summer heat wave in Alaska growing up (yes it’s a thing), my dad had several sprinklers and a tractor sprinkler going in the yard. From the woods behind the house suddenly came two young babies and a very large mother.

They came directly towards the tractor sprinkler and sat right down.

My dad verrrrry slowly pulled the hose of the other sprinklers, and repositioned them in the backyard so they would spray grass under the shade of several trees.

Lo and behold, the mother moose got up, walked over to the water now pooling beside these trees, and plomped down. The two babies followed after and just fell over in the cool water.

FWIW, "mauve" was one of the coal-tar dyes developed in the mid-19th century that made eye-wateringly bright clothing fashionable for a few decades.

It was an eye-popping magenta purple

HOWEVER, like most aniline dyes, it faded badly, to a washed-out blue-grey ...

...which was the color ignorant youngsters in the 1920s associated with “mauve”.

(This dress is labeled "mauve" as it is the color the above becomes after fading).

They colored their vision of the past with washed-out pastels that were NOTHING like the eye-popping electric shades the mid-Victorians loved. This 1926 fashion history book by Paul di Giafferi paints a hugely distorted, I would say dishonest picture of the past.

Ever since then this faded bluish lavender and not the original electric eye-watering hot pink-purple is the color associated with the word “mauve”.

Oh! Just like the Victorians did to the Gothic, where actual Gothic cathedrals which had been built to be bright and full of light were portrayed as dark and gloomy places, because that's what happens after a cathedral is filled with candles for several hundred years.
