Linkara's Tumblr

@atopfourthwall / atopfourthwall.tumblr.com

A Tumblr for Linkara, that guy with the hat and annoying voice who reviews comic books on the internet.

I was curious what your policy/preferences on using your likeness for fan projects is. I'm working on something with elements similar to Winter of 83(one of the inspirations for the current iteration of the project) and part of the quest requires you to source a broken camera from a documentarian. If you'd like more details on the project or the use of your likeness I'd be happy to provide them.

As long as it's not, like, AI-generated images of me it's fine. If it's something meant to turn a profit, that would be different (a reference to me is fine, even a small character looking similar is fine), but if it's just a fan project for fun, go right ahead!

I AM SCREECHING AMAZON PRIME/PARAMOUNT+ KEEPS FLASHING THIS SPLIT SECOND CLIP OF A PEPPERONI PIZZA FROM LITTLE CAESAR'S IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS SCENE 😆😭🤣💀

All hail the space pizza 🍕 🚀

OKAY BUT LIKE THERE'S SORT OF CONTEXT FOR WHY IT WOULD DO THIS Tom is mutating right now and his brain is all over the place. When they get him to sickbay and he's dying, he suddenly screams out "PEPPERONI! GOD, I COULD REALLY GO FOR A PEPPERONI PIZZA RIGHT NOW!" Mind you, the fucking picture of the pizza IS NOT IN THE EPISODE, SO I DON'T KNOW WHY IT'S SHOWING UP IN THIS VERSION UNLESS SOMEONE AT PARAMOUNT MADE A SHITPOST EDIT WITH IT AND ACCIDENTALLY UPLOADED IT, BUT WTF.

The Origin Story of Rhinoceress

Cindy Shears used to be an ordinary girl until one day, she discovered her superpowers. However, her family were not happy about it so they took her in to be studied by Doctor Kavita Rao. She discovered a DNA variance unique to Cindy and suggested her parents leave Cindy in her care until a cure could be found. Abandoned and locked up, Cindy used her super strength to break out and become the Rhinoceress. While she does engage in some illegal work as a super villain, she also bartends and bounces at the Invisible Light nightclub.

Okay, I love her. Especially telling Klaw his vibes are bad, but also the “legally distinct from the x gene”

For those who haven't heard from my other socials, the first wave of Atop the Fourth Wall action figures is now up for preorders! $10 per figure, $25 for all three. Only have photos of the Linkara figure right now - boxy, but highly articulated so you can put them into whatever hilarious poses you see fit! Still, here's a photo of the 90s Dude and Mechakara heads that'll be printed out. Will post photos of theo ther figures as they become available.

They're made under license of the Easy 13 system from Lucky 13 Toys, whom you can check out here: https://www.lucky13toys.com/ The figures will ship April 4th and if I'll work on a wave 2 will depend on how well sales do on this, so if you're interested, check 'em out HERE: https://atop-the-fourth-wall.storenvy.com/products/36911019-action-figures

Is Star Trek Picard S1 that bad?

Avatar

Not as bad as season 2 and there are some genuinely good moments (the farewell sequence turning into stars in the finale was *Chef's kiss*)... but it's also bogged down by silliness, poor writing choices, and narrative decisions that are baffling at best and insulting at worst.

You commented you might check out more Midnight Burger, have there been any other Patreon reviews that have lead to you checking out a series/franchise beyond the review?

I ended up reading all of Sword Interval after I finished the review.

I went to a library book sale this weekend and I found a very old book called “Electronic Life: How to Think About Computers,” which was published in I think 1975? I’ve been reading it kind of like how I would read a historical document, and it’s lowkey fascinating

There’s a whole paragraph that’s like “okay, find the keyboard. Don’t panic if it has more keys than a typewriter, that’s normal. Really, it’s fine. The extra keys don’t make things harder. It’s FINE”

Thought this section was particularly interesting:

Can the computer create something? At first glance it seems obvious that it can. Animated computer graphics, with their fluid transitions and whiplash perspectives, look strikingly new. And if one watches the machine doing animation work, there seem to be lengthy periods when the computer is acting “on its own.”

But if one observes these processes in more detail, it becomes clear that creation is not occurring within the machine. First of all, computer graphics are not unique. Computers have yet to generate anything that cannot be done by hand—and usually already has been done. Second, the apparent ability of the computer to “act on its own” is the outcome of thousands of hours of patient human effort to refine its instructions. The computer can manipulate a shape for us if we have already informed it what a shape is, what the rules for shape manipulation are, what this specific shape is, and so forth.

You can start an automobile engine and it will run by itself, too, but that doesn’t mean it’s being creative. It’s just running.

Remembered about the LOTD bumper contest and caught the last snowfall of the year! Now I have 3 months to edit it - barely any time at all lol (joking)!

Looking forward to it!

Are there any edgy 90s redesigns that you really like? Maybe not as an improvement over the original, but as their own thing? I personally have a soft spot for the Jared Stevens version of Fate.

Firestar really pulls off the leather jacket, if that counts.

To answer the question of where the 'Batman is a myth thing' was it's in March of the Titans: The Titans 1-25. Which is still a fun series. The rant at Andrew Helford bit in the next episode is still baffling, how do you get put in charge of a series you know nothing about? And have those kids ever resurfaced in comics? Or did they wink out of existance?

Avatar

As far as I know, they never reappeared again.

Hello there. I’m looking for a bit you might have made about the “Batman is a Myth” mandate DC apparently had once. Do you remember which video that was?

Avatar

I do not, sorry. I know what you're talking about, but specifically in regards to which video I couldn't say. I'm guessing some time pre-2015, but beyond that I'm not sure.

I completely understand that it’s unhealthy and unfair to have a pair of social relationship where you have expectations of a content creator. All of that said, I’ve been watching your stuff since a little after your watchmen review. Please understand this context when I say this because many people failed to pass this bar:

Thank you so much for not turning into a fascist over the years.

Avatar

Just to clarify for anyone reading this, pretty sure they mean the old Watchmen movie vlog (or the bum review April Fools vid). But yeah, there but for the grace of God. I've made it no secret that I used to be a conservative back when I started and I know it probably would have been SO EASY to become a fascist without even realizing it. Thanks for watching and I hope I can continue to live up to people's expectations and hopes about me.

Read a joke recently that went something like "All Sci-Fi can be broken into two categories: A thought experiment pretending to be a story to make the reader engage with the concept, or War & Peace IN SPAAAAAAAACE!" In your opinion, where would Star Trek fall?

Avatar

Have you read Any of the Absolute DC comics; what's your impression of the overall concept of these stories and Do you like or dislike these comics like Absolute Superman, Absolute Batman, etc

Avatar

I've read none of them and am not interested in them, frankly.

Here's a question that's gone around the MHA and ATLA fandoms: If the hero has the ability to end a major threat by killing them, what gives them the right to risk the lives of so many by trying to find a way other than killing to stop them, especially if they don't already have a solid plan? Do they not have a responsibility to kill the villain? But others argue that, as the only person who could maybe end the threat without killing, do they not also have a responsibility to do that? Thoughts?

Avatar

"What gives them the right to risk the lives of so many by trying to find a way other than killing to stop them?" Well, what gives them the right to take a life? What authority do they have higher than any normal person with a gun? What figure granted them a license to end another? God? A governmental body? One can argue that there's a distinct difference between killing to save lives and killing to do evil, but then where is the line? Politicians and military leaders give orders to kill. Is one justified, in turn, to stop them through extrajudicial measures in order to prevent deaths? Indirect killing can be done by them, as well, same for rich assholes who don't actually care about human life and are protected by the law or their money? I'm not saying there isn't a line. I'm not even saying it's necessarily wrong given the circumstances - every situation is different, certainly. But I just have to hesitate when one argues that a greater good will come from a minor evil. Sometimes you certainly HAVE to be pragmatic. Sometimes there are no good choices and you have to decide on harm reduction. But a responsibility? Ehhh...
