Happy Bonkai Anniversary! One of my favorite things about this wonderful fandom, is how many great writers we have that can fix all the shitty choices the writers made in S6 (and the show as a whole, lol). But there are a lot of excellent, quality fics that seem to go unnoticed or don’t get the amount of appreciation they deserve, which then discourages these writers from perhaps writing more stories or finishing their WIPs. And fandoms + fics are like Tinkerbell + applause: Fandoms need fics to live. And this might be a little selfish of me, but bonkai fics are like crack to me and I don’t want this supply to ever end, because I need these fics in my life. 

With that said, here are some of my favorite one shots and WIPs that deserve more appreciation! Of course there are way more stories out there that are also wonderful and that tend to go unnoticed. This is just the tip of the iceberg. :)

If you read a story that you liked, review it. Leave kudos on Ao3. Even a one word review saying nothing more than “great” helps. Even anonymously if you don’t want to make an account or don’t want the commitment of having to review every single chapter. Maybe drop a review saying that you are *going* to read it when it’s finished. Heck, drop a positive, general review for a story you’re not even reading tbh.

Update on Current #Bonkai & #Bonjake Projects

For those that are interested in my TVD fanfics, I wanted to update you on the status of my current projects. My plate is full of family and work obligations, but here is what I’m working on:

Rise - Chapter 4 - Kai and Enzo make a terrifying and dangerous discovery about the Mercury Coven. Much more blood must be spilled for them to make their way back to Mystic Falls alive. (#Bonkai) 

Dark Purpose - Chapters 1 and 2 - (I’m re-writing these to be a good bit darker in theme than before.) Bonnie meets Kol in Chapter 1 and we learn about her in this alternate universe. We get narrative from the Killer and the first victim is murdered. Chapter 2 focuses on Kai, his first meeting with Bonnie and we also get a glimpse into his past. The investigation begins into the death of Victim #1. (#Bonkai, #Kennett, #BonKaiKol)

Resurrection: Gather The Witches - Chapter 4 - Kai helps Bonnie with focusing her new surge in magic. Bonnie begins adjusting to some new abilities that go along with being pregnant with magical Gemini babies. Just when they think they have their safe haven, they find out they are very wrong. (#Bonkai)

Possession with Intent - Bonnie finds a secret her grandmother has been hiding for years - a vessel for dark magic. She finds one particular spell that could forever change the Bennett line, but to do so, she will need to break both the rules of man and the rules of magic. In Chapter 1 - Bonnie tests her powers and catches the attention of a very curious and sexy police officer, named Jake Riley.(#Bonjake)

The Sweet Taste of Vengeance -  Chapter 2 - Caroline arrives in New Orleans to help Cami learn to control her Vampire instincts. Caroline also realizes that dealing with Klaus is more complicated than she’d thought; and that some complications are fun. Bonnie comes along with her to take a break from Mystic Falls, and realizes the Bennetts have a history in the Crescent City. (#Klaroline & #Kennett)

In our quest to find cover artist, we thought it might be helpful to put some info out there. Here are a few simple steps to having your cover art featured:

Chapter Fic Art

For chapter fic art, we really only need one cover that we will reuse for the multiple releases. The only thing that would need to change each time would be the song list on that back cover. If committing to updating the back cover is more than you can deal with (since chapter fics can last quite a few months)…NO PROBLEM. You can create the front cover and back cover and then send us the back cover in Photoshop format and we can update the song list for each release.

Summary:  It’s one year after Jo’s and Alaric’s wedding. After a period of relative peace, Mystic Falls suddenly acquires a heretic problem. Bonnie, semi-retired town protector, travels to Portland to petition for help from the Gemini coven and its leader, Kai Parker. Season 7 AU. (Bonkai) - Rewrite in progress.

So, I’ve been rewriting this fic - and it’s got some lovely feedback, awesome in terms of quality… but not much in terms of quantity. I would really, really, really appreciate anyone who reads/enjoys it to please say a few words especially about the changes, but also the story in general? And if you’ve reviewed before and ff.net won’t let you leave a signed review, you can leave an logged-off review and just type your name in so I’ll know where it’s coming from.

I’m sorry, I know it’s not really ‘good form’ to ask for reviews so I’m being a tad shameless here, but I would like really, really appreciate it. Writing fic is mostly fun, but it’s always hard work and sometimes it’s really just the thought of not wanting to leave the story unfinished that keeps me pushing on. 

So…. if you have a few words, or more of feedback to spare… I would really really really appreciate them. Thank you. 

I missed the original. She took it down completely and started reposting the rewrite on the same url. So I only know what she’s posted of the re-write and guys, it is amazing! This is exactly the way season 7 should have gone. I don’t normally do uncompleted stories because I’ve been burnt so many times, but guys, this one is worth it. It is just so smart. And look, it’s not even just a Bonkai thing because they’re still in the process of finding their way past their history… it’s Bonnie. Bonnie is everything we hoped she would become, everything they kept promising us she was going to be but kept not delivering. She is stronger, smarter, she is putting herself first. She is calling out people who used and she is getting R.E.S.P.E.C.T for that. After all the nonsense Alaric pulled this season, it was so refreshing to read a scene where he practically grovels with thanks to her for bringing him back to life, and there’s more like that. Seriously Bonkaimily, this fic is required reading for all of us, heck for anyone who calls herself a Bonnie fan at all, regardless of who you ship her with.

:waves: I have been reading your lovely reviews on ff.net and it’s the weirdest thing that I didn’t make the connection until now that the wonderful reader called bonkai-dreams is you? LOL! Thank you so much! I really, really, really appreciate them. 

I love that you say that it’s not just a Bonkai thing because yeah, I feel that way, too. They’re endgame for me but my first TVD OTPs are really Bonnie/Happiness & Bonnie/SelfRespect & Bonnie/GrowASpine. Fanfiction is more than just a way to express creativity for me, it’s also a way for me to work out my frustrations with the problematic way her character has been treated for the past 7 seasons. 

It’s funny that you mentioned the rewrite because (oh and by the way, I re-posted over the old link because it’s still the same story. I’ve added stuff and moved stuff around but there isn’t anything removed from the old version) I started out that story with this idea that Bonnie’s been chilling in Mystic Falls/Whitmore for a year, this problem starts and she and Damon get out of their depth and go to Portland for help… and then it hits me sometime after the third chapter…. No effing way!

Bonnie is not going to be hanging out in Mystic Falls or with anyone Salvatore after the BS she’s put up with for 6 years, give or take. Not my idea of Bonnie anyway. Bonnie went through literal hell for the past 2 years - going mad with Expression, dying, suffering worse than death as an anchor, getting stranded and forgotten in the Prison World. My girl is NOT an unbreakable, Strong Black Woman who takes and takes and takes abuse with a smile. She’s been pushed to the wall and she’s pushed back. She packed her bags and left that bloody town. She’s stuck in Whitmore until she graduates from college because of sentimental reasons (Sheila’s college, her Dad’s college) but she hasn’t set foot in Mystic Falls in over a year. People have been calling her for help with one supernatural problem after the other and she’s been ICING them. And after a while, they not only got the message, they started respecting her for that. 

I mean, I put in things like this in the story for a reason:

Because I really think it goes both ways. Bonnie’s friends eventually became vultures who always took advantage of her. But some of it was on her as well for always being willing to help. So it’s important growth for her to, basically, grow a spine. 

Wow…. *stares at paragraphs of fic ranting* That really went out of hand. lol. Thanks for giving me a reason to talk about my story. I don’t always get a chance to do outside conversations with my beta (who is a darling), so I think I get a little carried away when the opportunity knocks. But now it’s back to #MidtermsFromHELL
