Happy Faire Friday!

For today I thought I'd share a closeup look at some of the work that went into my fire top.

In an effort to stay away from flammable materials, I made it out of scrap pieces of leather i had around the shop and fire tested it before use. :)

I wore it for the first time during last year's faire season, and it's been holding up really well since. That being said, I'm always keeping an eye out for fitting pendants to decorate it with.

Next, it's onto the leg covers and possible mask.

Movies where the lead actor did their own stunts are always either "the director forced them to stand in freezing water for fourteen hours a day while periodically throwing rocks at their head for the sake of 'authenticity' and they got PTSD and almost died" or "they insisted over the explicit objections of the production's insurance company that they be set on fire for real because it would 'help [them] understand the character's motivation'" – there's absolutely no middle ground.

From the Leverage commentaries, I gather that the latter must have a subcategory of "The actor wasn't supposed to do the stunt, but we took our eyes off them for 5 minutes and they slipped in and did the stunt before we realized it wasn't the stunt guy."

I'd add the Tom Cruise tier to the list , where the actor himself calls a director up like "yo, i just thought of some new certain-chance of-death-small-chance-of-success stunts, can you build a script around them? Also I will also be needing a single thread of spiderweb from which I will be dangling over a live volcano. "

academic bias is so funny because you’ll be reading about the same historical event and one person is like “Despite the troubles that befell his homeland and near constant criticism of the court King Blorbo remained strong in the face of adversity” and the other one is like “after letting his people carry the brunt of his cringefail decisions Blorbo the Shitface refused to listen to any reason and continued to be a warmongering piece of shit. Also he was ugly.”
