the very CONCEPT of bodyguards is so narratively juicy and excellent, and I don’t just mean like “character x is character y’s bodyguard so they can be in the same place and fall in love”, I mean the protectiveness, the tension of trying to balance personal and professional, the unified dichotomy of devoted guardian/loyal servant! the power dynamic.
and even platonically speaking?? again: loyalty!! personal/professional!! the sheer delight of watching someone kick righteous ass in defense of their principal!! honestly it’s even good when the two people in question hate each other. it’s always good. write more bodyguards into your stuff, I’ll read it.

❛ but gai - sensei allowed it !! ❜ clearly it wasn’t in the taijutsu master’s intentions to have the boy train into wee morning hours . though his voice rang clearly in the child’s head . train to your youthful heart’s content !! master the konoha reppū until i’m back and make me proud !! the sensei should have minded his WORDING , it seemed like even gai himself had yet to realize just how much the boy clung to his words . and it ought to be to no one’s surprise , starved for affection && encouragement as lee had been all his life .
nonetheless , as soon as pout had left the boy , REALIZATION hit the child . he disrespected kakashi - sensei and suddenly gai’s method of punishment was showing , as lee immediately began to shake and cower .expecting a PUNCH . it motivated to be a good student , for the punches of a taijutsu master HURT LIKE HELL . and though kakashi wasn’t , not like gai - sensei , lee still expected a fist to his face . ❛ f - f . . . FORGIVE ME !! i will go to b - bed !! ❜
kids are getting more and more precocious these days, uh? without much hope for understanding what goes on in the mind of a teenage kid, kakashi just gives a quiet sigh. it's not that he couldn't understand the drive, the furor behind the motivation-- the ambition to become stronger, faster, better at all that he could get his hands on.
he too was a child once upon a time, and things like time management and proper rest times had been hazy, out-of-reach things he hadn't been too keen on learning about. kami knows how much minato-sensei had worried over it. but in place of the rightful thing, he supposed it was now his time to be the one to share this lesson.

he wants to accommodate his own teacher's exemplary attitude here, but kakashi has never had much luck in raising his own poor self to the yondaime's level, at least in terms of ease of socializing-- he does a poor imitation at best, those who knew the man could attest, but given it's a child the one in the receiving end he doesn't think he needs to give it much more thought. lee doesn't seem like a particularly perceptive boy, from what he's seen of him.

he wants to say a few words of encouragement here, cheer the boy a bit since he is, after all, kind of scolding his poor habits here. but the look and flinch barely hidden in those big charcoal eyes stops him flat. what's going on? kakashi feels a wave of unease rush through his center. had he scared him? was he that scary? the teeth on the back of his mouth close down on his cheek, asking for a moment of clarity. had he done something wrong? why was the child looking as if kakashi was about to kick him....
' ...... ' the silence stagnates in the clearing. he coughs, roughly, trying to alleviate the tension. ' don't... don't worry, i won't tell gai if you just keep it in mind in the future. '
