Woot! I am finally up to speed with making my portfolio readable on your phone. Take a look here at my portfolio of newer stuff.
I love listening to Stuff You Missed In History Class podcasts, and recently they did one on Olive Oatman. I felt like I had to draw her.
Here’s a link to the Stuff You Missed In History piece on her:
Olive Oatman has the traditional Mohave tattooed chin that she had in real-life. I drew her wearing a traditional Mohave neckpiece, since the Mohaves were the ones who adopted her and treated her well (according to her first interviews upon her return to white civilization, before the media sensationalized her accounts). I included the coyote and the red-tailed hawk because those animals both figure in Mohave spirituality. I drew Topeka, the daughter of Espanesay, the Mohave man who adopted her, standing in back of her. I could not find photos extant of Topeka so I based her on a portrait of a Mohave girl named Mosa, taken by Edward O. Wilson.
Below is a portrait of a Mohave woman named Chacha wearing a beaded neckpiece, also taken by Edward O. Wilson.
Tardigrade! Or waterbear, if you prefer. Stickers and stuff are here: http://www.redbubble.com/people/terridrawsstuff/works/14625308-water-bear-and-water-baby
