No, the leading women of Dead to Me are not gay. No, as a lesbian this fact does not bother me. Yes, I am totally here for completely platonic relationships between women in which they support one another, can have lighthearted and humorous moments, can be protective over one another, and not exhibit any kind of rivalry or pettiness.

y’all out there romanticizing the shit outta Netflix’s You, for some reason purposefully ignoring that the literal point of the show is to not unrealistically romanticize shit and also for some reason forgetting that the protagonist is a literal sociopath who justifies being a stalker and, like, grossly invading and controlling his target’s life (also he kills people)

So I literally just started watching you and I got 1 question why the fuck does beck not have curtains for her big ass windows

I think the fact 14 year old Millie Bobby Brown thinks the serial killer stalker from that Netflix show You is romantic and just “in love” is a clear demonstration of female socialisation. From a young age, girls are taught to normalise and justify men’s abusive behaviour.

omg the point of “you” is to be torn between your sympathy and disgust for joe. the reason he’s humanized is so that viewers can gain an understanding of why we collectively victim blame. he’s a nuanced character- he’s not simply pure evil. (i mean yeah he is) BUT i feel like the point is to realize yaaaa he’s what he calls a “hopeless romantic” and “damaged” and nice to a kid but that doesnt mean hes a good person worthy of sympathy. like he can be great with kids but ultimately an insane stalker and murderer. also beck- i fucking hate her as a person but again, social commentary. we blame women when they are literally physically threatened by clearly unhinged and dangerous men. she isnt a good person. in my opinion shes boring and dumb and a user etc BUT that doesnt mean she should be blamed for being a victim nor should she forgive joe bc he “loves” her. this show forces you to examine why we blame and victimize and sympathize with certain people and situations. these characters are extremely human. imperfect, horrible even, but nuanced. not black and white. but the point is to remember that regardless of joes reasoning or becks horribleness, joe is the clear villain.

I just finished watching YOU on Netflix and holy jesus this show is BRILLIANT. Disturbing and fucked up, but brilliant. They make you see the world through the eyes of the psycho and he does such a good job at convincing himself that everything he does is for a good reason that you start having sympathy for him like hOLY SHIT ????? I found myself feeling bad for him multiple times just to be like “wait no wtf lol this trash bag needs to rot in hell” only a few seconds later. It’s scary how easily manipulated the human mind can be. And it’s even scarier how real and relatable most of the situations in this show are.
