Ok. 1) Do not use ChatGPT to write your homework unless you’re explicitly allowed to. 2) Don’t use it even if you are allowed to, because what it will write for you is *bad*. 3) If you break rule 1, then at least take out the incredibly recognizable bolding and capitalization of the headers of the list you asked it to give you, which you simply half-assedly turned into a paragraph.

More than a Murderbot: 1, 11

1: what inspired you to write this fic?

We were watching a season of Queer Eye that had just come out at the same time that I was listening to Murderbot again. I said something to M about how much Murderbot would hate all the hugging. Then I started writing the intro in my head and the rest is kind of a hazy fever dream.

11: What is your favorite thing about this fic?

I think I did a pretty good job of taking two very different works in very different genres, and staying true to each of them. I think the narration sounds like MB. I think the lines from the QE folks sound like they do on the show. I think the content matches them both. I’m pretty proud of myself for pulling that off.

I think having a baby niece is great cause my brother will send me just a constant stream of messages that sound indistinguishable from how someone at Jurassic park would text if they were being hunted by the raptor

yesterday I went to a little meeting at my local queer community center and I was admiring their bookshelves and mentioned that I work at the public library and someone said "well I bet they don't have any [LGBTQ+ books] at our library" and I was like um. yes we do. we have tons of them. half of our employees are queer leftists so they said "oh well I bet they don't in [nearby rural county]" and I was like uh once again yes they absolutely do. gay people live and work there as well

so here's a quick reminder that if you don't think your local library has enough queer centered materials you should actually check before assuming, and if you're not satisfied with their collection you should submit a request for more such books. I don't know what the political landscape of libraries looks like outside the us rn, but within the us no matter where you are, I promise you there are employees at your library fighting for inclusion and intellectual freedom and they can't win without vocal public support

I'm curious:

rb for sample size, you know the drill.

also, please tell me your local stock comments for small talk about the weather.

for reference, I'm from Michigan in the US and people here are completely convinced that Michigan weather is bonkers because sometimes it'll be 50° out and then snow the next day.

Italian here

Either its Summer Paradise or (U.N. OWEN WAS HER MCDONALD REMIX INTENSIFIES)

Prev tags are correct: Colorado and other high, dry states are quantifiably right, and should say it.

That reminds me of that one infuriating post that was like “if you don’t understand an academic paper, it probably means it was poorly written”…. Besties, romans, countrymen, if you don’t understand an academic paper it’s probably because it was written for a handful of experts in the very specific subfield for which it is relevant, and as someone who is almost certainly NOT one of those handful of experts it’s not in your realm of immediate comprehension. In many (most? all?) fields if you take even one step to the left of your scope of research you’re going to end up spending a lot of time catching up on context. Shockingly, this is because there’s a lot of information out there in the world, and you don’t know all of it. That doesn’t make you stupid, or the author stupid. No one has to be stupid in this scenario. This is a process called learning, just chill on it

In photographs, she looks like a scout leader about to ask if you’ve had anything to eat today. It takes a moment to see that often, just out of focus, her fingers are holding a joint and her vest is covered in risque pins, including an embroidered cannabis leaf.

Mary Jane Rathbun, jailed thrice and the reason for California’s groundbreaking action on medical cannabis, was better known as Brownie Mary, the patron saint of AIDS patients. More than twenty years after her death, it’s not hard to understand why this grandmotherly figure remains one of San Francisco’s most beloved activists.

She’s been called the Florence Nightingale of HIV/AIDS. She was famous for bringing her magic brownies to gay men and others suffering from wasting syndrome, a name for the deleterious effects on appetite caused by the stigmatized retrovirus.

Much like Nightingale’s work on hygiene and compassionate care, Brownie Mary’s legacy lives on in the recipes and procedures still used today in medicinal edible production.

Rathbun’s illicit distribution began in the early 1970s, when she was in her early 50s, while she worked at an IHOP in the Castro, 37 years before government-approved research finally proved that her hypothesis about distributing ingestible cannabis to AIDS patients was worth investigating. (Read more at link)

Brownie Mary helped save my life from AIDS wasting in 1996. She was adorable! We met at Dennis Peron's Cannabis Cultivators' Club on Market Street in San Francisco, and when she came around you knew you were in for a blessing. [Image: Brownie Mary Rathbun and Dennis Peron]

Her baked goods were freaking atmospheric. Because of her and Dennis and John Taylor's Flower Market and a lot of good folks, I got enough weight back to get on the brand-new HIV drugs just under the wire, and 25 years later I'm still here to write about it and say thanks.

In 1998, the Cannabis Cultivators' Club asked me to play Brownie Mary on stage to open her birthday celebration at the Club - as it turned out, her final birthday. I worked up a solo flute take to The Association's "Along Comes Mary" and ripped TF out of it. She lit up the stage like she lit up our hearts.

From High Times: "An insight into her indomitable character can be glimpsed in this vignette from August 25, 1992. The Sonoma County district attorney tried to charge the then 69-year-old with two marijuana possession felonies. Her response was concise: 'If the narcs think I’m gonna stop baking brownies for my kids with AIDS, they can go fuck themselves in Macy’s window.'"
