Whilst her grandmother, Queen Rhaella Targaryen, embraced her warmly, her grandfather, King Aerys II Targaryen, refused to touch or hold her, claiming she smelled "Dornish".
@warriorrhaenys didn’t ask for this, but i made this anyway hihihi
“Sweet sister, I missed you at breakfast... were you DISTRACTED by the beautiful roses in the gardens again?”

AS A FATHER, Rhaegar sometimes wondered if he’d FAILED. During their childhoods, everything seemed far SIMPLER. As they grew, every- thing became more and more COMPLICATED — and he thought that, perhaps, he was never meant to father OLDER children at all.
HALF THE TIME, it seemed Rhaenys loathed him — although some- times he knew it was all in his HEAD, while at others, he knew she simply kept her anger just BELOW the surface, at least when it was not appro- priate to SHOW.
HE DRUMMED HIS fingers on the table, looking at his daughter care- fully before plucking a grape from the plate before him. He hadn’t the first idea how to START, how even to SPEAK to her anymore, in most regards.
❝ Something TROUBLES you, my child. ❞
If only she could hate him, if only she could scorn him; being DISTANT was so very easy, being angry was something else when the very { NOTION } of bearing feelings felt so terrifying to the point that she had convinced herself that it was particularity a P E R I L. And even if she could she didn't HATE HIM, some days she wished she did, other days she wished she could be a CHILD once more, and think to be her HERO;; a mindset she hadn't acquired since she was naught but a girl.
Her gaze averts to her father when disrupted from her THOUGHTS, her eyes the only proof of her Targaryen blood, hat and her name, her cursed name.
{ naming her rhaenys was practically placing a DEATHWISH upon her }
Her troubles were of a disappointing kind, the type in which would change everything; she had expected some kind of GLEE from the very distaste she would likely receive when telling him of her troubles.
{ but now she was afraid }
So ridiculous she was! She came from a long line of brave women, from her father and mother's side, F E A R F U L strong women who made it to history; yet here she was cowering from admitting the truth to her own father. Only reminding her that perhaps there was a part of her which still { LOVED } him enough to care what he thought of her. That felt W O R S E than being scared in truth.
' Well, remember how you had EXPRESSED your wish for me to c h o o s e a suitor? I may or may not have wedded one. '

"Illegal ?…. Rhaenys, you are not in danger, are you ? You’d tell me.
Of course I love you. You’re just scaring me.”
' It's Viserys... I love Viserys,,, Uncle Viserys that is. But by the gods don't tell Dad. I had to tell you, I hate keeping things from you, Mummy. '
( vis )
Though Rhaenys was smiling, he wasn’t. He was nervous, apprehensive. “Do you think he’ll figure it out?” It wasn’t likely, not by how useless Rhaegar was at noticing anything about his daughter. Still… he never wanted anything to come between them. Not ever. “Wait, what do you mean she wasn’t surprised?”
' No, for that to happen Dad must actually pay attention to me. '
Hands now cup his face, stroking his cheekbones with her thumbs,
' Well... she didn't really react out of shock, she just told me to keep it secret, I think she suspected it. '

Viserys grew very still, studying her face. “Rhaenys, what did she say?” It was frightening to know that their secret was out, that she could tell his brother and bring an end to everything. At least, they could try. The wrong word in the wrong ear… “What’s happened?”
' Not much. '
She turned her head, curling her lips into a small smile. She was calm and collected, because there was nothing to p a n i c over... yet.
' She didn't seem to know what to make of it, nor did she seem very surprised... she just told me to make sure Dad doesn't find out. '
