investigating current pop* and i've come back with extremely popular takes about very good albums:
- dua lipa's future nostalgia is a pop masterpiece, i fully understand her popularity now. i'd known about some of the songs and enjoyed them, but i didn't know it was going to be an entire album of bangers. brings to mind crj's emotion just in terms of wall to wall fun.
- empress of's for your consideration is, for me, an instant favorite. i'd never heard any of her sounds before and it was such a treat clicking play on track 1 and loving the entire thing. H was sleeping next to me while i was listening to this album and i kept wanting to wake her up to talk about how good it is.
- olivia rodrigo's sour! fun! i wish i'd had this album when i was a young teenager. "brutal" is such an amazing opener. i don't understand people who want sounds they like to die with the bands they think originated them. like, yes, "good 4 u" sounds like paramore. and? do you not like paramore?
- wet leg's self-titled debut is another one that has such a super fun opener that i became an instant fan. this would have been on constant rotation if i'd had it as a teen. i love hearing all my favorite sounds with better production.
pop music is thriving imo

Mohammed is an engineer and founded the Gazan 3D printing company, Tashkeel3D. His contributions to the medical sector in Gaza have saved so many lives in light of Israel not allowing medical parts and equipment to enter Gaza during the years of blockade.

releasing myself from the burden of categorizing my music collection by genre. i never ever use the genre tags for finding/sorting music. it's simply not how i think of things and it gives me endless stress trying to figure out what to call things. i feel confident that fiona apple, mitski, and pj harvey belong in a similar category, but they also obviously each belong to other categories. the thing is:
what does it matter to me?
it doesn't.
i'm starting fresh (new computer finally!!!) and downloading things anew, and i've decided i'm going to just eliminate "genre" from the categories that are visible to me in my mp3 storing-and-playing software. playlists, not genres.
#what's actually important to me in terms of metadata is release dates#this is (more or less) easy and objective#i'm far more interested in sorting by year than sorting by genre#i've also (by the by) released myself from the burden of pdfs#the only ones left are the super special rare scans i've made#i'm moving into this new computer with the teensiest of baggage#FRESH and UNBURDENED

I found this guy’s GoFundMe on Reddit and wanted to share it here for traction. His top surgery was MAJORLY botched and he’s raising funds for a revision and money for a medical malpractice lawyer.

I have never seen anything like this. It’s completely bizarre.
Shitty people are blaming him for using a surgeon who doesn’t provide photos, but that’s not always possible :/ I, for example, have Kaiser and they don’t provide photos for any of their surgeons so it’s all either on faith, or by digging through reviews. If this doctor had decent reviews overall and seemed competent I don’t blame him for trusting a medical professional.
The surgeon is not named as a legal precaution (he is pursuing a medical malpractice suit) but the user's Reddit does indicate southern California, through the Riverside University Health system. He's also willing to share the surgeon's name privately through Reddit DMs, if you're in the same area/have the same provider.
every time i think about youth liberation i end up thinking about mad liberation and disability justice and everyone everywhere getting free and tbh the thing that most often sets me thinking on this chain is how often you'll get treated like you're insane if you talk about youth liberation.
people throw fits about the idea that there shouldn't be an age restriction on accessing public spaces. of course actually interesting ideas like school abolition and family abolition are too crazy to be considered. we can't even look at the reformist stance of abolishing bedtime, which is a euphemism for ending the control that adults have over when and how children are conscious or unconscious. (the health effects of resisting this form of control are still with me to this day and i don't care if anyone thinks i sound irrational for saying so!)
YOUTH LIBERATION NOW AND FOREVER. hating kids is embarrassing, accepting the status quo of how kids are mistreated is cruel.
