Scaevola is a genus of plants in the family Goodeniaceae. They are commonly known as Fan Flowers for their remarkable floral morphology. Out of all of the genera in the family, these plants are the only species to be naturally found outside of Australia. Prosthechea brassavolae is an orchid (Orchidaceae) in the subfamily Epidendroideae. This species is part of a multispecies group known as the P. prismatocarpa complex which includes 5 species native to Mesoamerica with a centre of diversity in Costa Rica. This species is found through Mexico south to Panama, where it grows as an epiphyte in montane forests between 1100 and 2700 meters in elevation. It is distinguished from the group by the white-magenta lip which is entire, instead of lobed in the other species. Tradescantia sillamontana is in the family Commelinaceae. Commonly known as cobweb spiderwort, or white velvet tradescantia, it is endemic to Northeastern Mexico. This leaves of this species are succulent, and thickly covered with white hairs, which help it to retain water in its native desert habitat. T. sillamontana is even considered to be the most xerophytic species in this genus. These adaptations make this species very easy to cultivate since it requires very little water and easily grows in full sun. Sisyrinchium xerophyllum is in the iris family Iridaceae. Commonly known as scrub blue-eyed grass, it is endemic to Florida with dubious reports of this plant in Georgia and Alabama. Scrub blue-eyed grass grows in sandy well draining soils such as pine savannas and oak scrub habitats. The flowering stalks can reach up to 2 feet tall making this one of the largest Sisyrinchiums native to the Southeast United States.
