"Do you ever dream of land?" The whale asks the tuna.

"No." Says the tuna, "Do you?"

"I have never seen it." Says the whale, "but deep in my body, I remember it."

"Why do you care," says the tuna, "if you will never see it."

"There are bones in my body built to walk through the forests and the mountains." Says the whale.

"They will disappear." Says the tuna, "one day, your body will forget the forests and the mountains."

"Maybe I don't want to forget," Says the whale, "The forests were once my home."

"I have seen the forests." Whispers the salmon, almost to itself.

"Tell me what you have seen," says the whale.

"The forests spawned me." Says the salmon. "They sent me to the ocean to grow. When I am fat with the bounty of the ocean, I will bring it home."

"Why would the forests seek the bounty of the oceans?" Asks the whale. "They have bounty of their own."

"You forget," says the salmon, "That the oceans were once their home."

How to love a god

1. Foolishly.
They do not care for you, do not know you. You are nothing but an amusement in a world of the mundane familiar. Savor that.
2. Unabashedly.
It is beyond your comprehension, and the study of it is your rapture. There is nothing here that you could ever understand. You do not look away.
3. Breathlessly.
When did you first feel them? When did the all encompassing pressure begin to grow? Does it matter? You cannot breathe. Its too much. You want more.
4. Desperately.
You are lost and losing more the longer you wander here, in this garden of wrong turns and impossible riddles. Inside It calls to you and promises safe passage in payment for faith. What a beautiful lie
5. Helplessly.
Of course you love them. You always have. They found you and made you theirs, isn’t it such a gift?
6. Recklessly.
You will burn yourself out in a blaze of glory in hopes that a supernova will notice, but the thrill of the burn is worth it in its own right.
7. Blindly.
You know nothing of it because you have never confronted it. It lurks behind you always, never seen but ever noticed. Whisper your prayers to the shadows, maybe one day one of them will listen.
8. Ceaselessly.
It is just out of reach, constantly flitting in and out of existence, close enough to taunt, far enough to evade your grasping claws. You’ll catch it one day. Its already caught you.
9. Thunderously.
Fight. Tear. Rend. Bleed. Blood is the oldest call to the gods and they will listen. If you spill enough that is.
10. Inevitably.
It was always going to lead you here, to the point where nothing has ever mattered but who you are and the fact that you will never change again. It does not care for you, so there is no judgement here.
11. Harmoniously.
You cannot cooexist with them for they are more than can ever be explained but you can become more-than-you if you try, a fragile counterpoint to their divine song.
12. Freely.
This was chosen for you by you by chance but the reward is an endless being, live without the boundaries of ‘too much’.
13. Collectively.
You are but a collection of parts, but every piece of your self calls out in rapture of their use in service to the perfect whole you can become.
14. Exclusively.
No one loves your god as you do, you alone know the truth to it existence, you alone know how to fill the vacuum of nothing that cradles you. You will never fill it.
1. Foolishly.
This cannot continue. There is nothing there to love.

Little Black Wolf

Little black wolf with eyes like the sun. You who are seated with sad fate. Restrained to a mountain. For the crime of existence. For a crime that You have no control over. The punishment handed out unfairly.

Little black wolf with fur as soft as down. You who are seated with sad fate. Restrained to a mountain. Your mother mourns Her son. Yet He is not dead, but confined, Confined, to His prison for no other reason but fear.

Little black wolf with fangs as white as pearls. You who are seated with a sad fate. Restrained to a mountain. Your cries torture Your father. The sword that pierces You, wounds His heart deeply too. For He knows that there is nothing He can do to save You.

Little black wolf with the sad fate. You will one day have Your day. And break free from these ribbons and have Your justice. You will feast on those who've hurt You. On the bloody playground that is Ragnarök.

[grabs your shirt] listen. listen to me. the practical is holy. the everyday is sacred. the simple act of surviving is divine. do you get it? sanctity begins at home, in the hands that build and the lives we live and the deaths we die and the worms that eat our bodies. if making something by hand is not worthy of veneration then nothing is.

Idk.

The majority of people who convert to Paganism, including Norse Paganism/Heathenry, were once Christians. Myself included. And I’m really tired of the terms “former Christian” and/or “ex Christian” floating around on this cite, being used as a derogatory. Cause when I made the decision to stop going to church it wasn’t because it was all sunshine and rainbows.

So the last thing I want is to see a million fucking posts about how being forced into a religion as a child that I hated impedes my ability to be a proper Pagan. Or how unfortunate it is that my little Christianize brain can’t process Norse Paganism as well as a former atheist. It’s bullying for one thing and for another it invalidates a lot of people’s hardships they faced because they were likely also forced to go to church. You’re shaming people for the abuse they suffered at the hands of the church.

And people are probably going to comment saying I don’t understand. It’s a joke. It’s sarcasm. Sarcasm doesn’t make verbal/emotional abuse (which exactly cyber bullying is) less abusive. It doesn’t matter if it was meant as a joke. And I’m sure people are going to say I don’t know what I’m talking about. Really, let’s poll all of the Heathens on Tumblr and find out just how many of them

  • Were forced into Christianity growing up & suffered for it
  • Have been offended by posts that make ex Christians out as lesser than other Heathens

Which god do you think could eat the most mash potatoes in 5 minutes (any religion, legend or myth)?

I feel it's a contest between entities that can eat theoretically trans-finite amounts of potatoes. Like, is the entire Christian trinity allowed to compete at once? Is god the father considered to be a being capable of eating potatoes?

I think in practical terms it's Fenrir, who is supposed to consume the entire world at Ragnarok, therefore including every potato at once.

Dear Fenrir (II): Appearances

The cold cuts at my ankles

and I wish I wore taller socks,

ones thick and protective

from my walk through the blocks.

The cold blows on my face

even with my hood pulled tight,

even with a mask on my face

the cold hits me and blurs my sight.

I struggle to see you,

so many options pop here and there:

are you giant, human, normal wolf?

Are you gray, black, or maybe with red hair?

I do not know.

Your appearance isn't constant.

What I do know

is that your presence is.

Fenrir, you are filled with fire,

creating a warmth in your heart.

Fenrir, you warm my soul

and keep my breath able to start.

Fenrir, great wolf,

I feel your pain.

You gave them trust

and they wrapped you in a chain.

You were forced into submission

for something as simple as your birth,

they cared more about where

you came from than who you were.

One day I'll be able to see you

for who you really are

and I hope I can return the favor

so you'll see me as I really am.

You know what I've noticed? People who complain about the "new age" or "wiccan" influence in Norse Heathenry seem to really just be bothered by people treating it like a living spirituality.

But ironically, treating Norse Heathenry as a living spirituality is probably the most historically-accurate thing we can do with it.

Norse Heathenry is like a city that's stood for a thousand years, in that it's a product of new things built on top of old things. And even the old things are sometimes updated or even tossed out because they no longer serve the times. If we look at its entire history from the Bronze Age to today, we can see that it's always changed with the advancement of technology, and that it's always had its regional and local differences.

To claim that something is "new age" in Norse Heathenry because it looks contemporary misses the point completely.

(Also, I've noticed that most of the "new age/wiccan" complaints are specifically about people personally interacting with deities and spirits and using newer methods to accomplish this...but this is perhaps one of the oldest traits about Norse Heathenry. I'm curious to know who's telling people this is a new thing.)

Going to try to make a printable for a cardboard Gävlebocken to burn in effigy.

PDF here, 1/1 would not recommend.

Goatotype 3.0:

  • Play some goat tunes because this gets tedious. Cut out the paper templates without the slots/hole for easier tracing. Trace the pieces diagonally (rotate 45°) for better stability.
  • Using heavy duty scissors, cut around the shapes and try not to bend the cardboard.
  • Cut out the pieces. For the inside corners, use a box cutter. Cut the slots out of the template.
  • Trace the slots onto the cardboard.
  • Cut the slots out. Use a box cutter for the hole. Adjust the slots based on the thickness of your cardboard as needed. Make them wider and longer than you’d think they need to be. Piece together.

Here’s the original template in grey to save ink.

If you don’t have a printer, here are a tutorial on how to trace it from a computer screen and a template with black lines. I didn’t have tracing paper, but I was able to do it with a prescription bag.
