Louis Vuitton SS13

Inspired in part by les Deux Plateaux by Daniel Buren (seen above at the Palais Royal, Paris) The checkerboard checks referencing the Damier pattern of Louis Vuitton, bring a sixties feel to the collection which was interpreted literally by the hair and makeup teams with back-combed beehives and khol lined eyes.

Re-see appointment at Dries Van Noten.

On paper plaid, metallic and floral sounds, well, odd. Indeed even when seen hanging separately in the showroom is hard to envisaged how this would work but work it does. In a styling triumph, every runway exit in this collection looks super cool. The fabrications are beautiful, organza plaid mixes beautiful with metallic embellishment and chiffon florals sit well paired with a checked shirt. Be inspired, mix and match and channel some Dries spirit in your wardrobe.

The East India Company was first founded in 1600 under the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. By 1800 it controlled half of the British Empire's trade and employed one third of the workforce of England. During Queen Victoria's reign the company was dissolved and all power passed to the Crown. Fast forward to 2005 and business man Sanjiv Mehta bought the company relaunching it in 2010 with a focus on fine foods. This year The East India Company adds fashion to it's roster, debuting an exquisite collection in Paris. Aimed at a red carpet customer these beautiful hand beaded gowns showcase the beauty of Indian embroidery.

The giant church organ centre stage was a clue that the religious theme seen in the SS13 menswear collection would continue to be a key theme for designer Riccardo Tisci in this womenswear outing too. The show notes referenced nuns and the 1960's couture heritage of the Givenchy label. There were similarities to the recent Gucci show in Milan with the cascading ruffle sleeves and exposed backs but Tisci's colour choice was more delicate, using a soft baby blue as his accent shade amongst black and white.
