everybody can kind of create their own theory about what it must be like in there. and it’s reasonable, i think, to say, well, if you’ve been infected for a week, a month, five years, you’re not— you’re gone. people can also say look, physically his ears, the eardrums, the nerves, they don’t work the way that the do in people who can hear, so why would they work now? but i think it’s still him.

So, I’m gonna tell you something because you’re probably the only person who will understand. I used to hate the world, and I was happy when everyone died. But I was wrong because there was one person worth saving. That’s what I did. I saved him. Then I protected him. That’s why men like you and me are here. We have a job to do, and God help any motherfucker who stand in our way.

"This is something that I talked a lot about with our many partners on that episode who were gay. So, what is it like when you're trying to figure out if the other person is like you, in the minority of sexuality? And all of the men that I spoke with basically said, there are people you really don't know about, there are people you're pretty sure about, and then there are people you're like 'oh, I see you,' and this was a case where we felt it was important that Frank could see Bill." - Craig Mazin, HBO's The Last of Us Podcast
