life hack: be best friends with a slytherin. they will steal cupcakes for you from work and tell you to drop toxic people from your life with no reservations. they will be the ones ordering you to stop and breathe and call in sick, to screw your commitments if they see you’re sacrificing your mental health. they’re the ones to say “don’t you dare settle” and “you deserve better” in a ruthless, matter-of-fact tone. they’ll be the ones saying it’s okay to put yourself first, the voice you need to hear after a long day or week or month. trust me, be best friends with a slytherin.

Actually I’ve seen this before and I can tell you— it’s because these women were bad ass pirates and when they killed someone they’d expose one or both breasts so that when their victim died, (s)he knew that they were killed by a woman.

ACTUALLY Anne Bonny purposely wore loose fitting clothes and displayed her breasts openly at all times during battle - mainly because men were distracted by them, and she took pleasure in killing said men while they were too busy staring at her breasts. Mary Read dressed mainly as a man (after posing as her deceased brother, Mark, for the entirety of her childhood) and both ladies cross-dressed from time to time, hopping between ships. They were known as the ‘fierce hell cats’ due to their ferocious tempers, and were key elements to Captain ‘Calico Jack’ Rackham’s crew - they were the only two known female pirates in the Golden Age of Caribbean piracy. IN FACT, when the ship was captured by the British Navy, Anne and Mary were the ONLY TWO pirates who fought while the males of the crew hid - they were all tried to be hung as pirates but Bonny and Read were both pregnant and were pardoned.

Calico Jack was a lover to Bonny, and as he was to be hung, Bonny’s final words to him were, “Had you fought like a man, you need not be hung like a dog.” Bonny and Read were possibly two of the most badass fucking pirates and they were FEMALE. The more you know. 

And on top of all that, exposed breasts have a long and storied history of symbolism in art. They mean all sorts of things. The sculptor may have chosen to expose her left breast specifically to denote her courage–her heart is exposed–or to evoke comparison to Amazon warriors, who cut off their right breasts.

It bugs me when people are unnecessarily mean. Like, you didn’t have to make that comment. You could have just kept your mouth shut and left that person not feeling bad about themselves. What do you gain from making someone else feel like shit? Nothing of substance. Maybe a fleeting moment of power but that’s gone as soon as it comes so why? There’s enough unhappiness in the world without you adding to it.

I am so overwhelmed by people’s kindness right now

Some of you may have see my youcaring campaign that I posted yesterday. 

My hope in posting it was that I would have 10 followers who were generous and kind enough to donate $5 so I could apply to have my student service fees put on a payment plan. That would have been so much more than enough.

Within 24 hours, $235 have been donated.

Between this and the extra shift that I was able to pick up at work yesterday, I can now pay my bill for this semester. 

I don’t know what I can possibly say to express my gratitude toward my donors, who were all anonymous. I feel unworthy of the love and support I have been shown. I probably wouldn’t have posted in the first place if I had known anyone would donate over $10. Your generosity is out of this world and I truly hope nobody who donated will be less comfortable in their quality of life because of it.

I pray that the people who donated will see this post somehow, because I sincerely need to emphatically thank them from the bottom of my heart for helping me to continue my education and still be able to support myself. I leave you all with the promise that I will work hard, pay off my debts, get good grades, graduate, and give everything back that I possibly can to anyone who I find in a similar situation. I will not let you all down. Thank you.

I have a full ride at my college- Concordia University Irvine- and am studying theatre and English. I hope one day to be a theatre teacher and provide a creative outlet for kids struggling under the weight of the American public education system. I love Taylor Swift, musical theatre, Jane Austen, and Disney. I recently became moved out on my own and became financially independent under less than ideal circumstances. I don’t have access to my tax information for last year since I was a dependent, so I couldn’t fill out the FAFSA application, and as a result my school is demanding several hundred dollars in “student service fees” before I go back to school on the 24th. I don’t have a lot of extra money lying around right now, between paying my rent, health and car insurance, car payment, food, gas, electricity, etc. I work full time, but with less than a two week notice, there’s not much I can do about it. Even to appeal for a monthly payment plan is $50. If I don’t pay these fees, I won’t be able to attend school, and I’ll lose my scholarship for subsequent semesters. I’ve seen a lot of my followers on tumblr create gofundme or similar campaigns, and I always donate when I can. I’m really praying I’ll have similar success, just so I can get through this semester reapply for FAFSA next year. Any help would be so appreciated. I know donating isn’t possible for everybody, but if you could even just reblog this and share it with your followers, I’d be so grateful. Thank you guys so much for your continued support and love.

headcanon that since the slytherin common room is under the lake there’s a room where the walls and ceiling are glass and you can just see into the lake like an aquarium

headcanon that when this was first done the mermaids got really aggressive and hateful about it and started ramming the glass but since it was magic this just caused them injuries

until a deaf/hoh slytherin started to teach them sign language and it took a long time bit by the time they left hogwarts they and the rest of the house were communicating with the mermaids and on good terms

eventually it becomes a part of slytherin house culture you’re a slytherin you know sign language because if you don’t chat with the mermaids they get grumpy

this helps a lot of deaf/hoh students

this also gives slytherin the best grades of any house on all aquatic magical studies

the mermaids give terrible dating advice do not trust them
